I want to try Barnes LRX 168grs in 280 Acley Improved.
The barrel twist is 1:9 and the length is 26 1/2"

Anyone who has experience with this combnation?

I don't with that particular bullet but I have a 280AI with a 26" bartlein MTU 5r 1:9 and with nosler brass, CCI br-2 primer 58.5 h4831sc with a berger 168gr hunting VLD to .002 off the lands and it is a 3/8 MOA load in any temp if I do my part

Wow, exact same load only I use the berger 168 classic hunter seated to saami coal to fit in a Mauser magazine

Same basic load I run as well.

If memory serves me right I was running 56.0gr. with the 180 Bergers and 58.0 with the 168 Sierra's. Federal 210M or CCI BR2's. .010" off the lands. The 180's were going 2800fps + out of a 28" barrel.

I was using the 168's for 300 yards and shorter distances and the 180's beyond 300 yards. At 300 yards the gun would put 10 rounds consecutively fired in under 1" groups prone off the bipod.

Later, Frank
Bartlein Barrels

Yeah I've heard many people use 168gr bullets with 58-59gr of H4831sc with great success. Seems like it's a very stable node for many rifles.

I landed with 59.2g H4831sc using Berger 168g Hunting VLD in my 280AI. Odd how this node works for so many different rifles/barrels set-ups.

I'm currently running 59.0 gr. of H1000 behind the 180 hunting VLD and it is frighteningly accurate...I've shot multiple 1/8" groups with it at 100 and it's holding 3/8-1/2MOA out to 1230yds. I haven't had a chance to go any further with it yet but it's been awesome inside 1000. BTW it's a 9 twist #5 contour Rock barrel on a worked over remington 721 action with a timney...built by Kevin Cram at Montour County Rifles.

Do you know your freebore? Also what speed?

I just started a 280AI thread on the scout site but here's the meat of this one
721 Action with 24" Rock #5 throated to a dummy round to maximize case capacity with the 180 VLD and still get to the lands
My OAL (Hornady Gauge) is 2.740" that's .002 off the lands. I'm getting 2755FPS out of it. My dummy round is set up with the beginning of the boat tail right at the neck/shoulder juncture of the 280AI brass.

I don't have experience with that combo but I have tried lrx in a few different calibers. They like speed and tight twist because they are so long. I switched to ttsx and nosler etip. They were just more accurate for me

Like others have said, I'm shooting the 168 Berger. But my load of 60.5 grs of RL26 and fed 210m, has been very good in my 9 twist

I have two Cooper 280AI's, a 52 and a 92. The 52 loves this load (1/2 MOA 5 shot), 92 pressures up before I get there. Approach with caution.

Barnes 168 LRX
62 gr H1000
Fed 215m
2807 fps
8 fps SD

Playing with the 145 LRX in the 92 now with H4350. Showing promise.
