Just got my first rifle built in 280AI. Lookin to find what load seems to work the best out of these. The barrel is a Douglas with 1-9 twist. Any help would be much appreciated

Re: 280ai

I found RE-19 and RE-22 work best for velocity. H4831SC and H1000 worked best for accuracy in mine.

Start at about the medium load for the standard .280 and work up. If you are going to shoot long range bullets such as the Berger and JLK 180's or Sierra's for that matter as well, you might work up your first ladder with the bullet at or just into the lands. Anything off the lands will be safe for pressure (as long as it was safe at or into the lands) and will probably give you a little bonus as far as velocity goes.

It seems to me (as I'm not near my data from that rifle, let alone rifle) that I topped out at 59.5 grains with the JLK/Berger 168's touching the lands. Something you can kind of look for when you get to the top end of this cartridge. I believe I backed off to 58-58.5? or so, as I got a little better accuracy. Those seem to be some recurring milestones with the .280AI Just over 60 for 162's and just under 60 for 168's.

If you aren't noticing differences at the loads coming up to that point post some pics of your cartridges for some hopefully helpful diagnostics.
