I thought I had posted this this morning but somehow it didn't come through or I posted it in the wrong spot so I appoligize if it pops up twice!!
A while back when we were talking about the 284 I had stated that I was getting mine in a few weeks. A couple of you wanted me to keep you posted on how it shot so here it is....
The initial breakin and load work up produced seveal groups with 162s and H4350 in the .5s @ 100yds so last night I tried them out at 400yds to see how they would hold up at a longer range.
My first group with 52.5grs of H4350 and the 162AMAX shot a 5 shot group into a 1.410"s. The next group I tried was 51.5grs of H4350 with the 168gr Berger and it went into a 5 shot group of 1.292"s @ 400yds. Both groups were a nice round cluster.
I tried 51 grs with the AMAX and quit after 3rds were in a 3" triangle. The next group I shot was a load with 52grs of H4350 and the AMAX. I also quit after 3 shots with this load but decided to try it again because two rounds were within an inch of each other and the 3rd even though it was 2+"s away was still nearly on a straight line with the other two.
I wanted to get back to 600yds befor it got dark on me to try and get some data for my dials so I could run a card off of JBM. I decided to shoot the 52gr load again. I dialed in 12MOA and shot it at 600yds and about shit when I went down and found a 1.345" group at 600yds!!!
I can tell you right now I am VERY happy with the 284 and I now know I will be the limiting factor on how well the rifle shoots!!!
