I have done some extensive searching on the forum and internet in general and cannot find anything one loading some 30 06 rounds with Berger 185 Hunting bullets using Remshot Magnum powder. I do some reloading for my father in law and he really doesn't care what I give him because he rarely shoots his elk rifle over a couple hundred yards so I use whatever I have that I am trying to get rid of for him. I never load anything wild for him. Usually just a powder weight in the middle of what the reloading manual tells me and seat the bullets to the specified OAL. He has had good luck with my loads (the last batch I loaded for him shot less than a half minute out of his Savage). But I have depleted my powder supply of the type I used for that lot and now I need to get rid of a couple pounds of Ramshot Magnum and cannot find any load data. Has anyone tried this combination. I'm not looking for a precision load for him so workups arent really necessary. I just need a safe powder weight to try. Any info or guidence would help. Oh, and the primers I use are CCI Large Rifle.

This might be a place to start.

Prsonally, I think A) that what's a safe load for a heavier bullet should also be a safe load with a lighter one, and B) that RS Magnum might not be as effective a propellent as RS Hunter (or the 4350's which have a very similar burn rate).

A ballpark median charge weight for .30-'06 and 180's using RS Hunter would be around 55gr, and I'd stay under 59-60gr.

My experience with Magnum and other chamberings suggests that it does not generate adequate velocities, and that case capacities in non-magnum chamberings are too small to effectively utilize that propellent.

Thank you for the input. I figured the burn rate would not work with this type of load. I have a ton of Varget that I don't have any use for and there is some loading info on this combo so I'll just use up that.

Not much help here with Magnum.

I did little testing with Ramshot hunter and the 30-06 with 185's. I found that with 58grs it shot well but didn't very good speed. Continued on with and ocw test and found 59.1grs produce good groups with speed around 2820 avg with 24" barrel. Current load right now is 57.0 grs H4350 with 2810 avg speed. To date it half MOA out to 830 yards.

trailrider, That is good info. Thank you. I was mainly looking to get rid of some Ramshot Magnum without turning it into 5 lbs of REALLY expensive furtilizer. I think I'm going to hold onto it and just use some Varget for my next batch for all the in-laws and friends. Berger has some data for that round with that powder.
