I have seen brief mention on the 'Hide of shooters running a 30-375 Ruger from time to time. From shooters that have actually owned and worked up loads for one does the 30-375R provide a noticeable performance difference vs. the 300 WM? The parent case (375 Ruger) has a case capacity of 99gr of water https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.375_Ruger vs. the 300WM that has 93.8gr case capacity https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.300_Winchester_Magnum
I have a Remington 700 in 300WM with the crap factory barrel and would like to be able to use the action and bolt vs. stepping up to a 338 action to build a 300 Norma. I am interested in the 30-375 because it uses a standard magnum bolt face, standard long action, (relatively) cheap brass, beltless case, (relatively) simple case forming process and slightly shorter and wider powder column.

What say the shooters that have BTDT?

I love my version of the 30-375R. I use a 30RCM and 338 RCM to neck down. A few cases will get munched in the process, then you have to fireform. Also you have to buy custom dies.

Now that the 30 Nosler is around I'd go the easy route.

Right now I'm at 2960 fps with 225's in a 30" 9 twist barrel. Years ago I won our only local ELR match with it and somehow managed to hit the 2356Y plate on the first shot. That was with 230 hybrids at 2925 or so.

Oh and don't overlook 300RUM. Single feeding, a guy I know with a 34" barrel was getting 3150 with 230's.

I have not been there, but the reasons you said about the .30-375 are very good ones to go with it over the .300 Norma, sans the extra fire-forming step.

I recall an IM conversation with you pre Scout days on the 30-375R, those msgs didn't make the transition, thank you again for the info. I don't like the RUM for the OAL issue and single feeding. I took a hard look at the 30 Nos but Nosler brass prices make Lapua look cheap and Nosler is the only source for a relatively obscure case that they may or may not continue making, the 375 Ruger has gained some popularity along with the 416 Ruger giving a better chance that the brass will stay in production. If the 30 Nosler takes off and more companies start making brass or there appears to be enough demand to ensure production then it is a good option, if.

A quick search turned up MidwayUSA selling the brass for $1.02 each and a company called Quality Cartridge selling 30-375 headstamped brass for $3.35 each. $1.02 per case is alot cheaper than the price for 30 Nosler brass.
