Good morning y’all,

need to this, never really thought I had the interest in long distance shooting but here I am. I’m looking to build a 300 PRC and I’m looking to keep it’s fairly cheap. Around $2500-3000 without glass. I’m open to anything coming to y’all for advice and directions. My ultimate goal is to hit a mile.

Are you talking like zero long range at this point, with a goal of one mile? If that’s correct I’d strongly consider a Creedmoor first. Learn the basics while still having a lot of performance in a manageable package. It’s a mistake to start with a magnum imo.

I have shot out to distance of like 600-700 yards and actually just sold my 6.5

Budget

Bravo stock. $350 new or maybe less used. Or MDT Oryx chassis $400 new. Trued R700 with no bells and whistles for $700 here on the hide in the px. Nice Bartlein barrel for $350 plus $200 Smith work? Strike Eagle scope FFP $600.

$2,200 all in.

welcome to the Poors.

He said without glass - a lot more and better options are available for under $3k

I want to comment....but I can't....my barreled action alone was $2800.

but for that budget...you can still get a nice semi-custom job done.

Could probably do it with a Zermatt Origin for around that 2k mark. Barreled action from Keystone accuracy is around 1325 last I checked, 275 for a TriggerTech Diamond, 430 for a KRG Bravo... $2030 (+$200 on the barreled action if you want a Krieger cut rifle barrel)

An example of what could be in your price range (excluding glass and rings):

- Bighorn Origin Long Action (~$925)
- Prefit barrel in 300 PRC - 1:9 (~$700)
- Triggertech Diamond Trigger (~$275)
- APA Lil Bastard brake ($160)

That totals just over $2k, leaving you $500 - $1000 to get a chassis to put it all in, mags, etc.

I dont know the specifics of your rifle, but you were just scratching the surface of its performance at that distance. With your budget, you could build a fine rifle that would accomplish most of your goals(dabble to 1500 yds pretty easy). Along the lines of what 7mmshooter posted above. Buy what you want, but I’d strongly recommend you don’t go magnum at this point.

Hmm...I put an area 419 hellfire on my factory tikka t3x .300 win mag with a ziess v4 and atlas bottom metal, area 419 20 min base, loaded up some 180 Berger hybrid elites 76g retumbo on Hornady brass, shot 3/4” 5shot groups repeatedly, sent a few 8” groups at 1000 and some 12” at 1300 and some 14” groups at 1650...I think I have $1800 into that rifle...buttttt I hate reloading belted mag...I need better brass life...could be a number of things...maybe I should try the 300 prc for better feeding too

My point being I don’t think there’s any problem with doing a magnum...my rifle really isn’t bad on the recoil...it is a large brake tho

little bit more than ur price but seems to have quality components.

Here is my build as an example. It fits your budget without glass by shopping around for a few items in the PX.

Big Horn Origin - $925 + transfer
Barrel - Prefit, $500 - $750+, lots of choices - Mine is 24" 1-9TW from LRI
Trigger - TT Diamond from the PX $210
Chassis - KRG Whiskey 3 from the PX $640
Mag - CIP .300WM - $60
Muzzle Device - PVA, 419, APA, Suppressor mounts, plenty options. $100-200
