Re: 300 Win Mag troubles
If it is the barrel, that is the least of my issues, as I probably will just end up rebarrelling the thing with a heavier aftermkt barrel. The gun has about 300 rds max thru it. The best group I got so far was 1/2 MOA at 200 yds, but I really wasn't too impressed with this. At 100 yds, it seems to perform worse, lending credibility to Doc's "sleep" theory. I try to headspace off the shoulder every time, except for virgin brass, which is about .02" bumped from the shoulder, making the case truly headspace off the belt. The case is pretty much swimming in there for the first firing.
The rifle was bedded and triggered by roscoe, and he did a great job; seamless work. I am starting to think that the barrel might be a bit crappy. I will continue to work on the loads and seating depths, and if I cannot get this thing to stop spraying, I am gonna sideline it for a while until I get a new barrel. It does hit 1000 yds fairly well though, so I am not going to give up on it just yet.
