Re: 300 WinMag 210 grain Berger VLD
Hey guys thank you for the nice info and help.
Here is my specific information. I am very new to the this rifle, and not that up on bolt guns. But I am wanting to do some long range target shooting with this gun at up to say 1500 yds and also use the gun for hunting large game as well as any other long range duties the weapon may be called upon to execute. The guy I bought the gun from gave me some guidance on ammo and I defer to that so please read what he had to say about it, as Im sure this will mean much more to you than it does to me. All I know so far is the 210 stuff is hard to find. see as follows and please let me know what you think I should do.
As far as ammunition, If you don't handload, I would stick with the premium ammunition from Federal, Remington, Winchester or HSM. The Berger 210 grs VLD is the cat's meow in this rifle, but you will have to handload for it. The only factory ammo that I'm aware of that offer Berger bullets is HSM and I believe they are 190 grainers. Some of their loadings are very accurate and some are not, so just buy one box at a time until you find a factory loading the rifle likes? I personally handload everything because it's way less expensive and I taylor the loads to a specific rifle. I have never used factory ammo in this rifle so I don't know what it would really like. I can tell you that I'm going to send you my reloading dies for this rifle so that will save you about $45.00 dollars if or when you get into handloading. Just remember when you get into handloading, never load anything higher than what the reloading manuals suggest. I always start low and work my way up until I find the perfect load for a particular rifle. Handloading in itself is a blast if you have the time for another hobby? lol
