I keep coming back to my old 300 WinMag. I know, the 6.5x284s, the 7mags etc all shoot flatter, faster,and maybe buck the wind better, and the 300 Ultramags shoot faster and louder. I'm stuck on the 300 WinMag because it works for me. I can shoot my .308 SSG out to 600 or so, but the 300 WinMag just does it better (130 grains to 220grains+) and then takes me out to 1000 yds if I do my part and use the high B.C. stuff. I'm not convinced that most of the "newer, better" stuff isn't just hype to sell more stuff. Am I just a Neanderthal, stuck in the past, or is there nothing wrong with "Don't fix it if it's not broke? And sorry about all the double negatives, but they work for me.

Ford, Chevy, Dodge. Pick what you want and does the job for you. Nothing wrong with the .300 if that makes you happy. I shoot 2 long range rifles in that caliber and my youngest shoots the 6.5-284 and that works for him.

Yup, you hit it on the head man. If it ain't broke don't fix it. The 300 Win is still a brute, it might not be new and sexy, but it still stomps some ass.
