I'm thinking about switching to bonded bullets for LR elk hunting and am hoping to use the Federal Edge 200 grainers.
I don't see the need for 30 nos or 300 PRC capacity with 200-212 grain bullets, so I'm considering a 28" 300 wsm throated correctly.
I'm hoping a 200 grain bullet could be pushed over 3000 fps with RL26.
Anyone have experience with the wsm loaded long with 200-215 grain bullets?

I have a 18” barrel in my short action AX, with factory 180gr DeerThugs I was clocking 3060fps

I can’t imagine with an extra 10” it won’t be way faster with 200’s

Here is an extensive discussion on 300wsm and bullets 200 - 215; please note the longer barrels
300 WSM...WOW

200's powder H4350
215's powder RL23 don't tell anyone

RL26 get the velocity but not the stability and subsequently falls short on consistency.

beast of a cartridge with excellent precision (easy to get low MV deviation) ... I wish I was more enterprising and screwed on my 32" 300WSM from PVA, but I'm just too lazy and having fun with the 308 that is currently on this long-action Big Horn.

198gr Flatline at 0.84 G1 BC doing 3150fps - that will get the job done!

Range report: just tested Berger's 200-20X RL26 Xcaliber 26 in 1:10 twist. Avg 2934 fps. Very accurate load!

Your looking at an intermediate (3.2") action im assuming? Im entertaining a similiar project as you. Ive worked with a couple of 300 wsm in the past and so far they have dissapointed me in the velocity department. No way would they have hit 3000 with 200 + grains, even with an extra 2" of barrel. However, both were restricted by the short actions that housed them.
