First time doing annealing on .308 brass and seems like from what i have read and seen on videos, it takes about 5 - 10 seconds and the brass is annealed. How long do you guys do it?
I just have a basic set-up for now. Deep socket on a drill to turn the casing and a propane torch. I have a few range pick up brass that I can test on.
Probably been posted before, but just want to ask.

Like DThomas said, you need Tempilac. Hornady, Lapua, Federal, Lake City, all had different times in the flame.

Pick up some 750 Tempilac. Place a small dab on the inside of the case mouth and allow it to dry. Turn off the lights and light her up. Count or use a stop watch while waiting for the Tempilac to burn off. Thats your time for that brass manufacture.

I am newb as well. However, from my reading and watching this is what I do. A newb's perspective. I have an Anealeaze.

I use scrap brass for set up. I start by turning the lights off in my shop. I load up the anealease and set the torch so the tip of the hot spot is about 1/4"" from the neck/shoulder. I then turn down the speed (longer dwell) until I see the neck/shoulder/flame just...... start to.... change color. Then I back off by one and go with it.

Keep in mind I am in a dark room so as soon as I see a flame color change I back off and that is what I go woth.

School me if I am doing it wrong as I am newb also.

?: should I be dropping my brass into waterpan on exit?

I go by the flame color change as well.
I just spin them in the flame till I first notice a change from blue to just barely going orange.
I don’t bother with a dark room.

It’s worked for me for a few years now and I’m getting some pretty awesome brass life with my 260 brass.
It almost time to anneal all my 7 saum brass as well

Excellent video Steel Head. Another one that I like and is very thorough is one done by GunBlue490, titled "Case annealing with the Bench Source, and how to anneal on a budget!" He provides 2 or 3 different "cheap" methods and also demonstrates the use of the more expensive and precise Bench-Source Vertex machine.

I haven't annealed any brass yet myself so can't help you there but I'm considering the Anealeasze machine. Do you have the original version or the newer one with the digital readout? Is there anything you particularly like or don't like about the one you have?

I Just got the new version, only done 50 cases on it so far. But it was finicky to set up to have the brass roll freely without studdering and the torch mount is pretty cheesy, but over all it works. Set it up and let her go

2nd on the Anealeez and the orange "puff"
Shop lights off with single worklight to see what I'm doing
Set inner cone of the flame just shy of touching the brass at base of neck, top of shoulder.
Keep adjusting the speed slower until you reach the point where you get the orange puff in you flame which is some metal starting to burn and then speed up slightly until just shy of getting the orange.
Been working perfectly and really do like my Anealeez

I do this also. Firings have been great so no need to do anything differently yet.
