Re: .308 loads for 185 berger BT?
no doubt I think its slow , thats the only exp I have with that powder just to put .02 in. my pet is 42.3 of 4064 behind sierra 175's thats chrono'd at 2660. I think I still have a few rounds of the other but gonna try to chrono it im bettin a dollar its around 2300 +/-. +1 on sierra, all my loads dont match their stuff<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: Sig685</div><div class="ubbcode-body"><div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: sniperdude</div><div class="ubbcode-body">38.5 grains of varget got me good groups from my 24" 1-11 tw. no pressure signs at all, i think it was on the slow side , i didnt chrono is. if you got a tight bore and longer barrel , try a couple at 38 or so and work up from that. sierra says 41.1 is max for the 190 hpbt so the berger should be good </div></div>
You must be joking. In your very short barrel, your MV must be close to about 2200FPS, I seriously doubt you bullets would be supersonic at 800 yards, let alone 1000yards.
Getting your loading info from Sierra is your first mistake; they make wonderful bullets, they do not make or sell powder. To know how much powder to use, go to the powder manufacturer's website.
To the OP, for your short 28 inch barrel, you will need to load at max or maybe above to get great results from the 185. I currently use 44.5 gr of Varget in Lapua cases and I get 2850FPS out of my 32 inch barrel. I am quite happy with the results on paper at 1000 yards. </div></div>
