Being sick of supply headaches which seem more acute with non-US made powders, I'm *this* close to just going back to 4064.

And yes, I tried the search but didn't find much.

Will be testing the last rifle's good loads (42.0 and 42.7 with 168s) soon, but I'm interested in 155s and 155 A-Maxes.

Anyone have loads that did or did not work to guide my next round of OCW tests? Last one had some chrono/light problems and some goofiness with the bags, so part of it's going to be a re-do anyway.

Thanks.

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

sorry my 4064 exp. was 150's in an '06 garand 52.5 was about half moa.
I need to recreate it with current componets.

Good link for the 190-gr loads. I have some with 41.5 of 4064 that worked okay.

How about 155s?

Any comparisons of velocity at X temperature vs. Y temperature, same load, same rifle stuff?

Thanks!

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

I don't have data for the 155 or 168 grains, but for the 175 SMK, I used 44.2 grains of IMR 4064. Hot load. Please work up accordingly.

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

Check your twist for 155s out of an M14. Tried them years ago in a 10 twist and they are OK out to 300 but go to hell at 600. 168s and 175s were good all over. The good ole standard of 41.5 of IMR 4895 in a LC case never let me down in a match.

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

I use the 4064 exclusively. My tightest groups with the 168 were with 41.5 and 42 grains

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

4064 is all I use in .308.

44.0 for 175 SMK
44.5 for 168 SMK

Work up slowly to these in your rifle.

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

Thanks!!!!!

For all of the above, can y'all comonback and tell me what cases you're using?

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

I have had good luck w/ IMR 4064 in my Rem 700 PSS 22" factory barrel (cut and recrowned) 1-12

The following is a 300 yard 5 shot group that is common for this load and rifle.

Vinconco:

I know Sierra has a reputation for being conservative, but they show max of 42.8 and speed of 2600 for 4064 under 175s from a 26-inch barrel using FC brass.

50 fps faster with 4 inches less barrel, using 1.7 grains more powder in a case with less H2O capacity, is someplace I'd go only if pressure signs *started* at 46.5 grains... Unless your barrel goes 75+ fps faster than expected "book value" with factory loads.

But if I had accuracy results like yours at only 200 yards (M1As just haven't been at the 1/2 MOA level for me yet), I'd be inclined to hot-rod them and see how long the barrel lasts!

BTW, it appears that my WLR primers are contributing to early high pressure signs with 4064 in FC cases. Load development continues, dag-nabbit!

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

I used 44.3 grains loaded out to the lands, in my LTR, with a 175 Sierra, 210M, Win brass.
The primers were not flattened and the load shot better than me at 300.

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

168 Amax 26" stock rem 700 barrel 12 twist with 43.5 4064 works well.

For the 150/155gr bullets, I'd consider IMR4895 to be a better propellent, somewhere in the vicinity of 42-43gr.

Sierra 5th has 4064 putting the 155s out 100 fps faster than 4895, though... Same for 168s in fact. I seem to remember some other load sheets NOT being that way.

I'd love to get great accuracy at a useable speed at less than max loads. I kinda like barrel and brass life to be longer if possible.

Still in load development....

Re: .308 loads using 4064?

+1 for 41.5gr IMR4064 with 168gr SMK. Slow but it gave me tight groups. Tac works great with 168gr SMK also. For 155gr SMK I like H4895.
