I am about to send my remington 700 to the smith to get it threaded for a suppressor but i think a muzzle brake would be another cool option along with a standard thread protector. budget is $150+/-. I know of vias and holland but dont know much about them. what d you guys run?

Re: .308 Muzzle Brake

I run a SureFire muzzle brake. It works great by itself but also allows you to run a SureFire suppressor with its quick detach system.

Re: .308 Muzzle Brake

1. Nothing will brake as well as a quality suppressor.

2. Only angled, close tolerance brakes will do what you are asking to the degree that you would want.

3. Watch out for those famous for kicking up dust, its a pita. Side ports only.

4. I would agree with Chad, as I use an equivalent design. High angularity, difficult to cut curved ports and close tolerances. These are hard to make and will cost you your budget. Machined, not cast. Some of these designs have literally 100's of hours of gas pathing tuning. Like Chad says, nothing comes even the littlest bit close. Vias, no. Holland, ok. Look at the ports below and you will see what superb work looks like, most are cast and finished, you want 100% machined curved ports. For a .308 they can be small, those big rigs are only needed on .338 L and greater.

5. You will feel the blast pass both your shoulders. These are loud..these are LOUD to the shooter. Wear muffs and plugs.

What will you get? Your .308 will recoil like a .223

Lastly, no QD unit will do the job as proper gas pathing for the suppressor prevents this. Is it better than no brake? yes...is it anywhere near these units? No.

All three of the ports here are 31 degrees, and are specifically designed to eliminate dust signature. Maximum lift (energy redirect, not barrel lift) off your body, dusts the shoulder only...

Profile on a well made unit should not be much larger than a heavy barrel profile. This is .308 and this unit is, IMO, as good as it gets for speed of re-acquisition.
