I know this may have been beat to death but i am looking for experiences you guys have had with different titanium cans especially the ones around $1000 because i don't want to spend anymore than that.

I keep seeing the SAS cans for around $800 and am having trouble stopping myself from purchasing one.

Any experiences/ words of wisdom are greatly appreciated.

I did quite a bit of researching before I ordered, and I went with a SAS Ti Arbiter. Not because it was cheaper either.

    If AI uses them...

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

I shot with a guy yesterday using his Ti SAS that he got off the forums here. On his 308, the suppression and tone were EXCELLENT. I'm having a hard time not buyig one myself. Sounds as good if not better than my 7.62 SD.

I don't know what more you can ask of a $750 Ti can. WM rated too.

If you've come here to find someone to talk you out of buying one, I'm afraid you've come to the wrong place.

WELL SHIT i know whats coming then don't think i can resist much longer. i have a gemtech hvt but its heavy as hell and really hard to use offhand with a 24" barrel.

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

I have four SAS suppressors and have no complaints with any of them.

    The 9mm and 22lr are titanuim, 5.56 & .30 cal are stainless.

FWIW - I would consider contacting Mike at Advanced Barrel Systems and inquiring about a carbon fiber suppressor. If I understand correctly, these are the lightest, or close to the lightest, suppressors on the market and they dissapate heat many times faster than a steel, aluminum or titanium constructed suppressor.

Do you mean the Carbon Fiber can't last long? The stuff that jet fighter wings are made out of? or were you refering to something else?

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

It's my can that flounderv2 and Goin'Hot are referring to. This was my first suppressor purchase and I can't be any happier. It's super light (16oz I believe), sounds great and is a pretty killer value.

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

My only concern with the SAS can was we couldn't get it threaded on a friend's barrel. Not sure if it was the can or the threads. We did thread a Shark JAWS can onto his barrel with no problems (a big 338 can on a 20" 308 was amusing).

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

Amusingly front heavy!!! I found a post at silencer talk about some thread pitch issues related to the SAS line of products. It was from '08 so I figured they had been resolved. I'll look it up again and post the link.

The issue is the binder, not the carbon.

PEEK's, prepregs etc etc...contain a binder, some even using a Crystallization mechanism to provide cure cariteristics. CMC's are pyrolyzed up to and above 1500 deg C. Thats hot folks.

The blast chamber of a rifle caliber suppressor is a bad bad place....foward baffles and the outer tube, well thats another story.

Im no carbon fiber expert....but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

    by a shark...A BIT MORE..Here's why!!

    But comes apart..

PROVEN suppressor...one of the best sounding

One of the lightest. Excellent customer service

thread adapters that apart of the can that
can be moved to different rifles...Buy something servicable...completely machined..

INCONEL blast baffle not just TI. You pay a bit more you get a better product..

    David Whitson

PS Welding can weaken the can..if the welds sucks the can sucks!!

Ever head of the beechcraft Starship late 1980's...It was the first Carbon fiber turbo prop...THere are ZERO Flying now...defects in carbon fiber...Carbon fiber can delaminate!!! it is a bitch to repair

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

With the SAS, you can get the can so it attaches to one of their brakes. The brakes are $75 and they would act as a blast baffel in themselves, therfore preserving the actual blast baffle in the can. The blast baffle takes the vast majority of the abuse.

If you ever wear out the brake, just get another one.

    Re: 308 titanium under $1000

I've had my SAS arbiter for 6 months now and couldn't be happier. The buying process started out pretty rough but Stacy Blankenship straightened things out for me.
The day I brought it home I stopped at the post office and weighed it, 14.5 ounces.
POA shift was about .5-.75 moa. Although that doesn't matter as I don't shoot without it. If there is any effect on accuracy it improves it. I use it on my 308 and my ar15. I don't have any other experience with suppressors, but I think it is pretty quiet and with subsonics it sounds like shooting an air rifle.

At least one escaped the bone yard as I hear and see it flying in Fl. about once a month, the pusher prop layout makes a very distinctive sound. I always loved the look of the Starship! .

Shark737, looking forward to doing some business with you in the future.

Cant go wrong with a Shark either and you can always call David directly.

"PS Welding can weaken the can..if the welds sucks the can sucks!!"

True, but proper 100% titanium deep penetration welding is the strongest, lightest extant. No thread can, tack can or, as you note, surface weld can compare in strength and baffle integrity.

I've got a .223P Ti TBAC can and Gemtech Sandstorm. BIG thumbs up for both of them! Sandstorm is way quieter/lighter than my HVT.
