308 TWIST

Re: 308 TWIST

11 twist is probably an all-around optimal way to go. However, I have a 10 twist and the 155 Scenars are my go-to 600 and 1000 yard bullet - the 10 twist doesn't seem to overspin them and I have enough twist to launch even the heaviest bullets if I so choose. I prefer them over both 168 and 175's. They have a flatter trajectory so there is very little elevation change from shot to shot. So long as I do my part on reading the wind they put me at the top of the scoreboard...

Re: 308 TWIST

I would go 1/11" or 1/10", I have a 1/12" that is great with 168gr but not great with anything heavier. I have a 1/10" that is good with either. I do not have a 1/11" but this would seem a logical choice if you're going to be shooting a lot of 168gr and only a little with 175gr+

Re: 308 TWIST

I am running 1:10 twist barrels on all but one of my 308s now (and only because that one is still wearing a factory 1:11.25 barrel). I have found the 1:10 delivers excellent performance with all bullets from 155gr to 190gr in barrels from 16" to 24". It is a great all-around barrel (unless you plan on shooting the lightweight stuff through it which it appears you aren't going that route). The 1:11 or 1:11.25 barrels will work well for your stated purposes also, but I'd opt for the 1:10 just in case you want to go with heavier bullets down the road.

Re: 308 TWIST

Mine is 1-11.25 with an 18.5" barrel. Shoots great with 168gr FGMM and I have shot 175 black hills as well. I have pushed the 168 out to 1k yards and works well. The 175 I have only shot at 200 yrds or less and it did well, but I didnt have enough to test it farther out. I mainly just shoot the 168gr.
