So I decided to start over with load development using berger 168 vld's and Lapua brass. I starting at 43.5 grns of imr 4064. The case seems really full.....I assume with the Lapua brass case cap. might be less due to thicker walls?

Anyone got a load close to this that could give me a good starting piont. 43.5 is going to be compressed load.......

I found a really sweet node with a 168 smk , lapua brass, 43.4 IMR 4064 at 2.850". It's compressed... But it's good to go. I think the max is like 45 grains compressed

I didn't have good luck with 4064 and Lapua brass. I ended up with Varget and a 178 Hornady A-Max bullet at 2708FPS. My load is over max in most books but no signs of pressure and it really shoots.

Lapua has 1-1.5grs less water capacity than Winchester because it has thicker case walls. New brass appears to have less capacity than fireformed brass because it is sized to smaller dimensions. A powder column dropped into a case is taller than one slowly tricked in. Accepting reality, which is that a 155gr bullet will only get you 200 FPS over a 175, will prevent stomach ulcers.

I ended up loading a 5 shot string for each load from 39.0 - 44.0 . Will be running them tomorrow. Thanks ks for the replys. Will further refine upon the best groups found.
