Hello, I have been using 88.0 grs of retumbo with 300 smk and want to
use h-1000. The data that people show are using more powder than me
reaching max load. Looks like I would be using 84 to 85.5 grs of h-1000;
anybody seeing same result?

I would go with something in the 89-91 as indicated above. If you load close to CIP or longer I would go in the 90+ range and go up by .5 grains.

When I look at load data, most people are loading hotter than me without pressure signs.
My accurate load of 88.0 grs of retumbo--col 3.725--300 SMK average 2575 fps. I know
most are getting 2700 fps but at 90 grs, bolt lift is stiff and there are extractor marks.
Retumbo is a little slower than H-1000; I working up a load now, start at 84 grs and work
up but I bet I reach pressure signs sooner than most.

I ran 91.5 H1000 over 300 SMK with Lapua Brass and CCI 250s ... worked well for me. when I was working up the load I went all the way to 92.5 before I stopped. Was starting to show some pressure and a bit of ejector mark, 91.5 ran nice.

No. I am not obtaining similar result.

I am running similar components between my two .338 LM's with very good results (Savage 110 BA & Custom Wolf Precision).

Using 300 SMK's I have found two NODES for each Retumbo and H1000 that work very well for me.

FWIW:
- I now load for LOWER NODE as I found lower SD's (single digits - as low as 2 per five shots & 8 for ten shots)
- HIGHER NODE had SD's in low to mid teens (high teens at worst)

Lower Node:
300 SMK
89.3 grains Retumbo or H1000
Lapua Cases (Necks Reamed and Turned)
CCI 250's or 215M
2.715 / 3.630 Magazine fed (Non-CIP) [Custom Wolf Precicion]
2.715 / 3.681 Savage
H1000 ~ 2752 fps
Retumbo - Do not recall
* Initially ran HIGHER NODE in Custom before switching to H1000
* Ran LOWER NODE in Savage (Never tried 92.x of either powder in Savage)

Higher Node:
300 SMK
92.1 grains Retumbo. or
92.2 grains H1000
Lapua Cases (Necks Reamed and Turned)
CCI 250's or 215M
2.715 / 3.630 Magazine fed (Non-CIP)
H1000 ~ 2828 fps
Retumbo ~ 2836 fps

I do not have log books in front of me at this time so NO Temps or D.Alt to give.
Depending on day Temps were between high 70's and low 90's.
D.Alt was probably somewhere in low or high 2K range depending on temps for day.
Used Magnetospeed v.3

Lastly, what I do is perform PRESSURE TEST first in increments of 0.5. Once I determine where pressure begins then, I begin OCW. In this case I did not perform my usual OCW/Ladder from scratch.

After pressure tests I loaded:

Savage
5 each (89.0, 89.3 & 89.5)
From what I recall POI were similar (diagonal lower left to upper right) and 89.3 POI was middle of 89.0 & 89.5 so I ran with it.
Last two range trips five shots yielded .88+ MOA (Just above 0.5 C2C)

Custom is .3 MOA C2C with any NODE mentioned above. Even tighter with better shooter.

Hope above helps in some way...

Safe shooting

I have been able to load up to 91.5g H1000 at 60 deg F with the 300 SMKs before getting slight pressure signs

Man, am I the only one running 300 gr bullets in at 2950 fps.
300 atips
savage elite precision 338lm
lapua brass h1000
93.9gr
Coal= 3.802
fps 2962 fps
sd of 10 shots = 7.8
Half moa.
No preasure signs until I reach 3000fps on higher loads.
