Guys,
What are your loads looking like on the 300 grain bullets. We are starting with 300 grain SMKs and Retumbo at 90 grains and getting 2630 fps.
We got some of the new 300 Bergers and wondered if anyone has any data on them yet.
Looking for powder, load and velocity.
Thanks for any assistance.

You may want to try more Retumbo. Try working your way up to 96-97 grains and you should be getting somewhere in the area of 2800fps. From what I hear you can put a little more powder behind the new Bergers. I have not loaded mine, but I will be working them up to 97 grains. I'm hoping to get 2800-2850 fps.

How are you getting more in the case??

I've run as much as 96 gr of Retumbo without any compression or using a drop tube.

93 gr of H1000 with a CCI #34 primer is one of my favorite loads for the 300 SMK. Super accurate with an average velocity of 2820.

What is your COL when you're running this much powder? I loaded up some loads with VV N170 to find my max and I'm seeing compression with 93 grains. I'm not positive but I think my COL was 3.690" with 300 gr. scenars(I'm at work or I'd check to be sure). I do know that I loaded them .010" off the lands in my SRS so I don't have too much more room to play with. I'd like to know if you just have more room in your case or if there is that much difference between Retumbo and N170.

COL on the 300 SMK is 3.750" which puts approximately .670" of the bullet in the case. Seekins magazines don't limit you too much on seating length.

Don't be afraid to crunch a little powder if that's what it takes, just watch for the obvious signs of pressure. I ended up switching to US869 with better results from anything else I've used.
