This is not the best quality video or sound BUT I wanted to post it up anyways. My friend shot this when we hit the range earlier today, it was about 14 degrees and windy. We had 10-15mph winds from left to right. But we were sighting in a few rifles and I decided to grab a few subsonic rounds to try out. At 100 and 200 yards they did fine, shooting about 3 mils low and 1 mil to the right on my 200 yard zero.

Here is the video, enjoy: There should be two shots, I hope it downloaded all of it...

Sounds alot quieter than the last 338 I was around. Nice to know myself and wildcat78 werent the only ones out shooting today. I gave up playing with subsonics in my 308. What kind of load are you shooting in the 338?

Re: 338 Lapua: Standard vs Subsonic

it was probably the bullet splitting the wood target holder. its a 1 inch thick backing that had got wet, froze and then we started shooting it. Its much quieter in person.

300zero is a new member here, he filmed it. a good buddy of mine and he actually got me into the precision rifles.

you will just have to take my word for it. sounds like a 22 pistol going off. For a big magnum caliber.... thats pretty damn quiet. You have to remember, its a cell phone video, not good audio quality.

It will be louder in the cold as well. It was about 14 degrees.

To all those questioning the sonic crack of the Subsonic bullet, be advised temperature/air density/altitude dictates the speed of sound, as an aside it sounded like I heard a crack also.

Re: 338 Lapua: Standard vs Subsonic

never disputed that temp didnt have an affect on the sound. It does affect it
It was very cold that day and I can assure you the Corbon subsonic ammo is extremely quiet. about as quiet as my suppressed 308 bolt guns. I am working on getting a better idea. hoping for warmer weather soon, and better video equipment!
