I have been loading for the 338 for 4 months now and am unable to locate some equipment that will handle a cartridge this big. Specifically I am looking for loading trays, and a kinetic hammer to unload cases. Thats my main want, some other good stuff would be ammo boxes that are large enough to put the shells in tip up.
Thanks,
Ty

Re: 338 LM reloading equipment

I have had my 338 LM a couple months now myself. I found a couple of pastic cases that let me store ammo tip up. The Berry's Mfg 412 Ultra storage case holds ammo up to 3.75 OAL and the individual compartments are large enough to hold the case head down on the LM. The other one is the MTM Case Guard H-50-XL. The MTM case also has a folding carrying handle.

For a loading block, check out Tom S' thread for custom loading blocks in the group buy section. I had a Delrin block in my tool box that I used a 5/8" bit to drill out and made my own loading block.

I have not used a kinetic bullet puller for a few years now, so I can't help on that part. But like Meatloaf said, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Re: 338 LM reloading equipment

I just got the RCBS collet bullet remover and pulled 100 338 Lapuas. The kinetic hammer is now relegated to the junk box. Get the Rcbs, it works great.( I have not used the Hornady collet bullet puller but it looks good too.)

As to loading trays Sinclair has some polymer (think kitchen cutting board) trays that I am using and I really like them. After tumbling I place the cases in the trays and shine a flashlight on the bottom of the case holder to check for plugged primer flash holes.

I am using the mtm cases for loaded ammo.

Re: 338 LM reloading equipment

For a cheap loading tray, I would suggest using the 20 gauge shotgun shell holder. It's about $5 from Sportsman warehouse. In terms of the bullet puller, you have to go away from the kinetic puller and go with the collet puller. I use the RBCS and it's very quick.

Re: 338 LM reloading equipment

Frankford's #8 loading block will hold the 338 Lapua. I just tried it and it dropped right in. I bought the #8 block for 45-70. I recall I got it at Midway.
