338 Norma Magnum help.

Please let me know if this sounds right. Getting ready to reload 338 NM for the first time (hell first time reloading!)

RCBS #48 shellholder purchased from Midway USA.
H- 1000 88 Grains, FED 215M primers w/ 300 Grain Berger OTM's seated .005 off lands and grooves

I'm trying to come up with a correct shopping list so I don't buy the wrong items. The above is an excerpt of something someone told me. I want to verify it's correct.



Something I'm confused about: 338 Bullet = 338 Bullet or do I need a 338 Norma Magnum bullet?

If I'm correct. I need a 338 bullet and a Norma Mag brass. The bullets are the same. Correct?

The questions you ask are very basic. This is not me trying to bash you, but you are trying to sprint before you can crawl.

This question says it all <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">"Something I'm confused about: 338 Bullet = 338 Bullet or do I need a 338 Norma Magnum bullet?"</span></span>. Please get a/some reloading manuals and do some quality reading. It may not supply you with specific loading data for your caliber, but you will at least not ask a question like that again.

Oh, and don't take someone's word for loading data unless you have some working knowledge of the whole concept. If this was a previous owner or the gunsmith that built the rifle, that sort of changes things, but I hope you get the picture.

Do you have 338 Norma Mag brass yet? You will also need Magnum primers. Magnum primers work the best for me in cartridges with this capacity. Projectiles for .338 cartridges are the ones you are looking for. Powders such as RL50, N570, Retumbo, RL25 & H1000 are in the burn rate that you should be trying. Start low in the charge weight & work up. If you find that some of the rounds you have loaded are on the slow side for you or don't fall into the level of accuracy you are looking for, you can always use those rounds for sighters while moving to different distances. Keep very good notes so that you don't cover the same ground twice.
