Curious what the consensus is on this round. I’ve been thinking about building a rifle in this caliber for long range hunting big game. How's the recoil? Any insight would be helpful.
I thought of going with this round because quality ammo is substancially less expensive. The 338 RCM Hornady pushes a 200 grn bullet almost 3000 fps. A box of 20 is about $36 bucks. A box of 20 338 LM is about $71 dollars!
Hey,
I wish I could tell you. You've got it lucky haha, in Australia a 20 box of 338 Lapua is above $200, and that's if you can get the permit to acquire it. Tends to get denied because it's not in the public interest.
That sucks man! Unfortunitely I live in Mexifornia and we're headed in that direction. We can't buy or even own a 50BMG. Felony if you're cought! And you can only buy state approved handguns and there arn't that many on the "approved" list. F'ing state sucks!
Just hope you don't get to where we are. We can't even own .50BMG ammo. Actually in Australia it's illegal for an unlicensed person to own spent brass, so you have to have a weapons license even to own the shells. Also, handguns... to own a handgun here you have to be part of an approved club for at least six months then if you get approved (takes another six months) you can only shoot .22 and have to work your way up to owning larger calibers. It's a joke. I want a second amendment haha.
I never knew the gun laws in Australia were so strict, they must be afraid of the masses for some reason. And with all that open space and great range to shoot in too...
Yeah Hero, the laws here are some of the worst in the world. It'd take me days to even begin to explain how terrible they are. Just lucky you guys live in the free old U.S of A.
