Alright, it's been awhile since I've talked to you good folks on here but I'm needing some input again. For those of you who helped on my 300 mag decision from Nighthawk Custom, thanks a million. Love the rifle and it is a dandy shooter. I have a .375 RUM XCR and I'm not very impressed with it. However I'm seriously considering making a long range shooter out of it with the 350 gr SMK bullets. I'm thinking of having my gunsmith true the bolt for me, putting a PAC-NOR 6 groove 1:10 twist 28" barrel on it, and dropping it in a McMillan a-5 stock with a jewell trigger. Does this sound like a good idea or am I gonna be let down pretty hard? Has anyone built this caliber up yet? Thanks for any help.

Re: .375 RUM build up

Not really the caliber I'd want to shoot multiple times at the range, more a hunting rifle I might have to shoot once a season! Perfect caliber for dropping big bears or anything else on the North American Continent.

Re: .375 RUM build up

I did some quick, quickload work on it to see what it could do. I didnt have the 350smk in there so i used the lehigh 330grn. And from what i can figure its a good choice for a more budget oriented ELR .375. I have jbm set for the altitude at the Whittington center in nm (where i do all my shooting) and at that altitude it saying the bullets not subsonic till almost 3000yrds.

I would defiantly go at least 30" on the barrel if not longer. And those Lathe turned bullets might defiantly be something to look into

I think with a heavy barrel and a good brake on it it would be very tolerable. It has a JP Howitzer brake on it now and it is a super light rifle and it ain't too awful bad.

I believe it would do pretty good with a good barrel with the right twist I'm thinkin it might be a shooter. I'm gonna call PAC-NOR tomorrow and see if they would recommend the 6 or 5 groove rifling.

Re: .375 RUM build up

They got a pretty good kick to them. After I put the brake on it kicks about like a 30-06. I think in a good stock with a .950 barrel and a good brake it wouldn't be bad at all. I have an ops inc. brake on my 300 wm and it is a blast to shoot. There isn't hardly any recoil but the rifle weighs around 20 lbs with the scope on it. Thats kinda what I have in mind for this build as well. I'm a fairly big lad and toting a heavy gun isn't a big issue.
