Zeiss Conquest

Re: 44 - 50 objective

I've had both scopes. The 50 was definitely brighter than the 44. I sold the 44 and got another 50. Another thing about the 50mm scope, if you get target turrents, you have 68 MOA of elevation vs. 43 MOA with the 44.

Re: 44 - 50 objective

I think size weight difference is very noticeable and the brightness is barely noticeable. For a hunting rifle, I'd definitely go with the smaller scope. If you have a 15lb prone rifle, then who cares.

Re: 44 - 50 objective

bjjohnson,

Before losing any sleep over which Zeiss Conquest to buy, the 44mm or the 50mm for low light use, please consider the following:

None of the Conquests your looking at feature a illuminated reticle. So in my experience, in low light without illumination, in most cases you lose the reticle, way before you lose sight of the target your seeking.

The Zeiss #4 and #20 reticles are thick and will provide you an aiming point in low light, longer than the #43 or the Rapid Z's.

So objective diameter is only one part of the equation. You must also consider reticle design and thickness.

Best of luck,

Bob

Now that I actually have two 50mm scopes, I like them. I also like my 40 and 42mm scopes.

Which better? All.

Toe-may-toe/toe-mah-toe.
