I have a marlin guide gun chambered in 45.70. It loves the factory 325g FTX from hornady.I just bought some 325g FTX to load for myself. My question is, what powder's work best with this bullet?
Thanks in advance!

I've got a Marlin 1895GS (JM proof marked 18" barrel) /w 1-4x Leupold. I've been loading 56.1 grs IMR 3031 with Hornady 300 gr HP in Starline cases /w WLR primers. Over my chronograph this load clocks at just over 1800 fps. Accuracy is great. It will group 3 shots in 1" at 100 yards all day. I've had occasional 3 shot groups measuring 5/8" CTC with this rifle/load combo. I have some 325 gr FTX bullets but have yet to try them.

Sorry, my mistake I was using 300 gr Sierra HP in this rifle (other load specs are the same). I have a second 1895 GS with a 1-4x Nikon that shoots the 300 gr Hornady, 56.1 gr IMR 3031, Starline brass, WLR almost as well.

H4198 does very well for me. Any of the powders with a similar burn rate should do okay.

300g noslers, 325 ftx, 405 cast all seem to do fine with it.

Pay attention to brass length with those bullets. You will probably have to cut it a bit shorter than usual, or just use the spent hornady cases as they are already short.

I recently picked up a Browning 1886 in .45-70 and started loading for it. Locally all that I have consistently available is 4064. 57gr with a 350gr speer has me right around 1800 (per printed data, I dont have a chronograph).

Thanks for everyones input.

Redbullitt; all my brass is trimmed to 2.040 per manual spec . thanks for the heads up!

The powder's I have on hand are IMR 4064,4198 and A 2230. Sounds like I'm good to go......I see a ladder test in my future.
