I load 5.5 grains of W 231 or HP 38 under 230 FMJ for my practice ammo. That works out to 1,273 rounds per pound.

Depends a lot on what powder you intend to use. My choice is Winchester WST at 4.3 gr with the 200 gr SWC. I get 1627/pound of powder.

I don't think of reloading as cost effective, you will just shoot more. You have to factor all the equipment that use into your ammo cost until it's "payed" for itself.

I use 6.0 grains of Vit N-340. Since it comes in 2 pound bottles that's about 2333 rounds per bottle.

Yeah I looked at all the stats and averaged them all together and minus the reloading dies, your paying about 21 cents, thats 100 bullets, 1000 primers, 1 lb of powder. Now if you buy the 1000 round count of bullets it drops down to about 17 cents a round. This is all just 230 FMJ Rem., as apposed to buying a 50 count box of the same and thats about 40 cents a round. Reason for all this a buddy of mine just bought a 45 and couldn't think of something to get me and I told him dies would be good and we could both use paying less for ammo.

And if you cast your bullets you'll shoot about 3.5 to 4 cents per round. The .45 is great for cast.

7000 grains divide by the 5.0 grains i charge with gets me 1400 rounds providing i dont have any tiny spills or have to pull any rounds.
45 is pretty cheap to reload if you are using plated bullets and its even cheaper if you are shooting lead
