Ive been trying to find bulk (500 or 1000 rnd) 5.56 AR FMJ ammo on the relative cheap.
What are your thoughts on a decent brand for not a ton of money?

Most 1000 rnd packs ive seen are going for about $350. Is this just were the market is at currently?

thanks, </div></div>

This is $320 per 1000, but it's Lake City M855:

Re: 5.56 ammo question

I bought a case of the Russian Wolf hollow point 5.56 awhile back for Jack Rabbit hunting with my AR (don't really care if I loose the steel casings). It seems to work well in several AR's we have shoot it out of. Just depends on your gun I guess.

Re: 5.56 ammo question

For training and carbine matches I shoot Wolf steel cased. At less than $0.20 per round delivered I get 1.5x the quantity of training compared to the cheapest brass cased ammo.

I've never had any issues with Wolf 55 or 62 gr varieties, including WPA Military Classic, lacquered cases, etc. They've all worked flawlessly in several different rifles including a Noveske Crusader 12.5", LMT MRP 10.5", and a 16" Noveske. I run an AAC M4-2000 on both the 12.5" and 10.5" uppers and it functions just as well.

+1 for lake city. MidwayUSA also has it in 420 count dry boxes and every 10 rounds are in stripper clips.

Re: 5.56 ammo question

Steel case ammo is great on a budget. If you don't reload there is not real upside to the brass stuff other than it is not as hard on extractors. That being said extractors are super cheap and it takes a minute to change it out for a new one and honestly I shoot a lot of steel cased ammo and I haven't broken an extractor for a long time.

Re: 5.56 ammo question

Not sure if I'm just lucky but I'd suggest checking locally in addition to the interwebs. We have two shops within 50 minutes of my house that have been selling new (this year) Federal Lake City XM193 for less than $300.00/1K. Last purchase I think I paid around $290. Aim Surplus is also GTG as is Palmetto. Ammoman is another source although I have no personal experience buying there I generally use them as a price check. You should be able to find 55grn LC brass under $300 pretty easily right now.

Re: 5.56 ammo question

Since your in the east coast this place might work better for you. They have ton of selections like PMC 55 or 62 grain green tips $290 per 1000 and less for the steel case Russian ammo. I get mine from an outfit on this side of the coast since shipping plays a factor when ordering from the other side of the country.
