Gentlemen,

This is my first post and I need some guidance. First off, thank you for all of the great info that I have learned from reading this forum. Really great stuff. I will introduce myself a little. I'm a former 11B...with about five years as an 11M and consider myself just an ok shot. Lots of room for improvement.

I have assembled my own rifle. It is a DPMS LR308 with 18 SS Kreiger barrel 1 x 10 twist free floated via a PRI carbon fiber forearm.. Round count is now 29 rounds of Lake City M118LR according to my log book. It has a RRA two stage trigger installed and seems to group ok. Best five shot group was .37" at 50 meters. The glass is a Burris Eliminator 4 x 12. I know it's not a high end NF or Leupold. It does however allow me to "Laze & Blaze" as we used to say.

Anyhow, here is my question...even though it has taken a while to get here. My zero range is 50 meters. That is the maximum I can shoot where I am currently located. Where I hunt, I have a maximum range of 800 meters. I have my POI 1 inch high at 50 meters. At 200 meters, should my impact be exactly where I place my cross hairs?

Thanks in advance. Alan

I have that same barrel on my LR 308. Shooting issued M118LR I am 1.5" high at 50 and 1.5" low at 200. It avgs 2572 from my weapon. Those are in yards instead of meters.

Re: 50 Meter Zero with M118LR

Without knowing the actual muzzle velocity I'll swag your MV at around 2550 fps with the M118LR. Given that and what you said about being 1" high at 50 meters I ran it through JBM and it looks like you'll be right back on at 200 meters or very close to it.

To run your data I used.

Sierra .308 175 MatchKing (Litz)
2550 fps MV
2.5" sight height
35 meter zero
70* F
29.92 Bp
50% humidity
700 ft elevation

May not be exact for where you are so adjust accordingly but like I said you'll probably be close to zero at 200 meters.

Re: 50 Meter Zero with M118LR

POI I believe should be 1" low at 50 m with a 308win which you should be dead on out to 400 or so. I zeroed a guys AR 10 that way and was nailing targets out to 500 using the new to me eotech 552 with 308 ret. Pretty much kept everything same as zeroing an M4, 6 rounds within a 4cm circle or 1.6" gave me the perfect zero. Hope this help and kind curious how you liking the Burris scope. Almost got one until I seen the bushnells 600 DOA scope line which is my current optic on my Remmy 700. Love it. Zero to 100 and your good out to 600 using the DOA ret. Anyways, hope this helped a lil

Thanks everyone.

@HAVOC615
I do not have enough experience with the Eliminator to make a sound judgement call. Here's the thing. I hunt a logging road and have approximately 3-5 seconds to identify, range, and put steel on target.

I had a Leupold MK4 16X fixed that had a Premier mil-dot reticule...but was not fast enough to range, adjust DOPE, and fire before the deer was gone.

Hence my choice of the Eliminator. I mounted the remote control on the side of the receiver above my trigger finger. So far, I can hit the button...which lazes the target and gives me my hold over dot..in about two to three seconds allowing me to theoretically take a well aimed shot.

We will see this weekend how well my rifle works.

Re: 50 Meter Zero with M118LR

Use the maximum point blank range function on JBM. set your vital zone for ?many "s and you will see the zero you need to take a shot from 0 yards out to what JBM lists as your max range and place a flag/ ribbon out on the road at the maximum range.

By the way don't use match bullets for hunting. use a comparable bullet for hunting if you are shooting M118LR find a game bullet with 175gr for hunting. match bullet aren't designed to open up the same way as a game taker..
