6.5-06

Re: 6.5-06

It's identical to 6.5-284 but would probably feed better in a hunting rifle situation and without any work needing to be done to the follower.

Re: 6.5-06

You should be able to get more speed out of it than a 6.5x284. But it will warm up quickly.
I've never heard that a Broughton barrel lasts longer than any other brands, is this true? Or are you comparing it to a factory Rem barrel?

quote from broughton
These barrels are showing exceptional clean ability, more velocity, longer barrel life, reduced bolt / breech pressure and extreme accuracy - shooting small groups at short and long ranges. We will expand this 5C ® land formation into other calibers and twist options in the future.

could be a sales pitch

Re: 6.5-06

6.5-06/6.5-06AI and all it's long action cousins are a lot of long range shooting fun. 140 grain berger VLD's produce very little recoil compared to the .30 caliber 208 gr, 210 gr and above VLD's that you see in the .300 Win Mags. Plus, you use a whole lot less powder!

Re: 6.5-06

I burned a tube in one, took me just shy of 1500rd and 3 months. A friend of mine is on his second barrel. The rifle caliber excels with barrel lengths over 26"

My 28" barrel was throwing the 140 Bergers at 3175fps quite accurately. The 31" barrel on the one my friend is currently running needed to be reigned in because the Bergers were disintegrating in flight around 3325fps. He's shooting the slower node in the high 3100's to low 3200's now with them and the 140 Amax rocks at 3240fps

Recoil is not bad, more than a 260 but that's to be expected when you're pushing the same bullet with an extra 15gr of powder and another 400fps.

I think that it's a great hunting caliber and a great 800+ caliber, but for a lot of the matches around us the number of shots out past 800yd are small compared to the shots that are inside of 700yd and the smaller, lighter 6's and 6.5's are better suited to that game.
