6.5 PRC loading with 140 ELD

Unfortunately my testing (and a cursory google search) shows that Vihtavuori’s claims that N560 is temp stable is a flat out LIE.

I am running it in my 6.5 PRC with 143 BondStrikes getting outstanding SD numbers at 3000 fps now.

I have had great results with H4831sc but not great SDs and it seems to become unicorn turds as of late. I was getting 2934 fps with 140 eldx with a 24” barrel.

56.5gr H1000 at 2850 with a 140eldm shoots pretty well in my 20in barrel. Jumping them 45k. That same load was shooting well mid 3000s at 26in length b4 I chopped it for a supressor. Lost around 35fps per inch. I would not build a prc shorter than 20in unless it was a special purpose rifle.

You jumping those 40-50k?

Just put a 21" 7.75 tw on a defiance classic, bedded to a manners pro hunter. First custom for my chiropractor friend. I need to put something together for barrel break in. I have 100x pcs Peterson brass and 140eldm. If they shoot well, I'll keep loading them for him.

RL26 is not very temp stable either. Any of the double base "super" powders that give way more velocity give up temp stability as a tradeoff. They also tend to torch barrels much faster.

All N5xx, RL26 ect.

H1000 or even H4350 if you aren't chasing speed.

H4831sc is solid with 120-130gr bullets in shorter prc barrels.

What temp-stable powder are you guys using for 6.5 PRC with 140 ELD-M in a 22" barrel? And what velocities should I expect?
I find H4831sc works real well for me, but N565 really works the best

For 53.9 grs of H4831 you might expect ~2840 fps, for 57.9 grs of N565 . . . about the same velocity.

These are warm loads, so if you think of using them or anyone else's, start low and work up to be sure you don't run into dangerous problems.

There is a reloading specific sub-section.
And a stickied 6.5 PRC loads thread.

Here

Im finishing testing some 4831sc in peterson brass with 13o Bergers in a 22” barrel.
Will post results in there once I am done.
