I bought a 6.5 grendel RRA with lothar walther barrel upper on an online auction about a week ago. I received it via ups today. When I picked up the box I could feel it flopping around inside (uh-oh). Upon "unpacking" it I found that it's got 6.5 SAOD machined into the receiver and milled into the handgaurd in 1" tall letters. This was not what I bid on so I started doing some research and found that the 6.5SAOD is a Grendel "variant" according to SAOD's website. I'm pretty new to the AR platform so I'd never heard of SAOD and I'm confused at the "variant" part. Does this company produce a quality product? And WTF does Grendel variant mean? I think the handgaurd looks like crap, it'd be different if they were sponsoring me but they're not and I'm not that into advertising for free. Any input would sure help, for now I'm severly dissapointed and thinking seriously about sending it back. Thanks in advance

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

264 LBC is a Grendel variant, 6.5CSS is a Grendel variant,...in a nutshell what it means is the 6.5 SAOD is a 6.5 Grendel with some minor difference in freebore dimension and different name to get away from paying Alexander Arms to use the 6.5 Grendel name.

SAOD, never heard of them.

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

Not sure what to do, I waited like a kid at Christmas all week. When I opened it, well, let's just say whoever packed it FAILED. There are scratches on both sides of the receiver, on the other hand I had been kicking around the idea of a tiger stripe camo job, just don't want to be forced after paying retailish $ for a gun that looks used

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

I went to the SAOD website to read up about the company. When I couldn't find an "About Us" tab/link, it told me everything I needed to know. Read their warrenty page and their shipping policy page. What you bought is NOT a 6.5 Grendel. If that is what you paid for, it's time to get your money back.

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

Seller told me on the phone I could fire it and if I didn't like it send it back. But you all make very good points it's probably going back monday-unfired. Thanks for the list

If they described it as a grendel, make sure you leave feedback for that. Im sure a lot of people on here would appreciate the honest feedback left for that seller.

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

I would return it with out firing. If it is not what you bid on
do not mess around, just send it back. If the seller is honest you should have no problem. I have alot of transactions on GB and they will help you work things out if needed.

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

I decided not to fire it, don't want it to haunt me later. He told me on the phone he'd refund my money so I gotta give him +1 for that but I will be leaving honest feedback. Thanks all!

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

Jhick, Saod makes very accurate uppers, I have read several reviews, the 6.5 Saod is the exact same as the 6.5CSS, in other words their version of the Grendel. They use a variety of mil-spec uppers with Lothar Walter barrels, I do agree with your view of the advertising, I do think that on some of their rifles its a bit overboard, especially on the handguard and dust cover.

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

I had my mind all made up and here you go making me think about it more. Lol! The fit and finish on it all looks great but that hand gaurd! Ugh! The picture of the one I thought I was bidding on looked great and it had several swivel stud attach points on the right side the SAOD only has one on the bottom though that may be better for a bipod. SAOD's warranty kinda turned me off too plus no warranty card came with it. Seems to me that it'd be mighty easy to get the shaft if you had problems and tried to use the warranty after shooting Grendel ammo through their 6.5saod chamber. I already called the guy and let him know it'd be shipped back mon. Anybody know how long AA's lead time is for an upper? Called today but no answer or call back yet

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

If you check out the barrels on the website, they're selling Lothar Walthers. You don't usually see complaints about accuracy with L-W barrels. There is some testimonial linked to Hornady ammo that apparently used one of the L-W barrels in this chambering on a CZ bolt gun. If the price was right, it sounds like you got something good.

If it's a case of it simply not being what you thought you bid on, send it back for exchange. Sounds like the seller will work with you so that's good. I'm not certain I'd be so dead set on having an exact Grendel chamber.

Re: 6.5 SAOD???

Really?? One of my reasons for sticking to the Grendel was that I sell/trade weapons from time to time and thought it would be more marketable. Maybe I'm wrong cause the grendels really not that mainstream yet (or so it would seem) I guess the main thing for me is will this chambering fire factory Grendel ammo reliably, safely, accurately, and without eating my brass. I've heard the LW barrels are awesome and that's what attracted me to it from the start. Can anyone tell me how to contact Scott? I'm starting to feel like I'm flip-flopping like a politician but I'll take any useful info I can get. BTW this forum ROCKS!!!! you all have been more than helpful without making me feel like the rookie jackass that I am, much appreciated!!!
