I'm looking to have a 6.5 Saum put together for me. I've got a Big Horn TL3 on the way (short action, standard bolt face). I know myself or who I get to do the build will have to order the magnum bolt face which I can't find in stock right now. Other than that i know I want 25/26 inch barrel, either Proof or Bartlein. Haven't decided on a stock but I want to keep it as light as possible with a detachable box magazine and Trigger Tech primary trigger. This rifle will be used for hunting and shooting in general. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Manners EH1 with mini chassis gets my vote. with or without the cheek riser, which ever you prefer. Only issue with them is the wait time if you are wanting it to hunt with this year. Core shooting solutions keeps a good bit in stock though, if you decide on manners I would check there to see if they have what you are looking for in stock.

Is the mini chassis "drop in ready" as far as the receiver or do I need to have a smith to bed it?

with the mini chassis it is drop in ready, just torque the 2 screws down and you're good to go. If you wanted you could have a smith spot bed it, but I dont think it is needed. I didn't bed mine at all.
That's a big plus. Just curious what are you running in your manners? Caliber, action, etc?

Bighorn TL3 long action, Manners EH1 with CIP length mini chassis, proof 28 nosler barrel, trigger tech special trigger.

Since you want to use that rifle to hunt and just shoot with, I recommend getting a second barrel. 6.5 creed or something, use the 6.5 saum for hunting and the other for target shooting. Cheaper ammo to target shoot with and wont burn out your 6.5 saum barrel on the range. PM me if you want more details.

Just FYI, on the trigger, TL3 doesn't like the timney calvin elite. Thats what i started with, there is a known issue with that trigger that I didnt know about before purchasing it. So just dont use it on a TL3 action. I recommend trigger tech, its been great, that is what Big horn recommended to me.
(edit to add, just saw that you were already looking at using a trigger tech trigger, I'm still going to leave the info above just as an FYI)

My next project will be a more compact hunting rifle. TL3 short action, manners stock, somewhere around a 20" barrel thinking 6.5 saum or 7 saum.

Thanks for the info Man. I was definitely planning on a trigger tech trigger. Matter of fact I'd like to get a few of them. Remington 700 triggers aren't very good, thought I've dealt with it fine. The lightest I can get them is 4-4.5 pounds. Both my ARs I can hunt with is 2.5-3 pound range.

Pretty sure Bighorn makes an adjustment for the CE triggers if you ask or send then your bolt

They do, and I did that with mine. They were super helpful and I got it back from them like 8 days after I put it in the mail to them, but mine was still having issues with light primer strikes after that. Switched to trigger tech, and no issues since.

I went EH-1A, but if you want to cut weight, standard EH-1 would be my choice.

Bare rifle is around 8.25 lbs.
Tl-3, EH1-A, Proof sendero lite, curtis BM, Bix n Andy tacsport.

Looking at Black Friday specials on proof barrels. What would be the best twist rate for 140-150 grainers? I have no interest in anything lighter than 140 grain. Any help would be appreciated.
