I bought a lee universal decapping die and was going to start to deprime my x47 brass and noticed that the holes were to small for the decapping pin. My question will it hurt to make them all larger with this die? If so what are my other options? I ordered a Forster full length die set but it has not showed up yet so I didn't know if it comes with a smaller decapping pin or not. I'm not new to reloading just new to reloading x47. Thanks

Well after googling I see the 6.5x47 has a smaller flash hole does anyone know if lee makes a smaller decapping pin for their universal decapping die?

Not that I am aware of. I pulled the decapping pin from the die, chucked it up and turned in down until it would fit. Now it does all sizes of flash holes. My Forster FL die did come with 2 pins. 1 was the small size.

I don't know how it's working, mine will do it but it makes the holes larger that's when I grabbed a new piece of brass and it won't go in.

You need to get a Sinclair, Hornady, or Redding decapping die with small flash hole decapping pins. I prefer the Sinclair die which uses Hornady Pins. Lee does not make a small flash hole decapping pin.

I've done quite a bit of testing in this area, and I will highly recommend that you don't enlarged the flash hole. That's part of the overall recipe that makes the 6.5x47 work so well.

Millertime2,

We produce two different size flash holes, as you've discovered with the 6.5x47 cases; 1.5mm or .060", and the standard 2mm or .080" diameters. Nearly all of our cases use the standard 2mm/.080" flash hole size, except for a few accuracy oriented cases. Frankly, we've found that the smaller flash hole does give improved accuracy in these cases, so I would agree with the others comments here and recommend against opening them up to .080".

Just for reference, the other cases in our line which use the smaller flash holes are, the 220 Russian (think 6mm PPC), the 308 Win Palma case (but NOT the standard 308 Win case), and the 6mm BR Norma. As has already been mentioned, most of the major makers do provide small diameter decapping pins for these calibers, with several of them automatically including them in their dies for some of these cases. Hope that helps clear things up a bit!

I stand corrected. I checked my lee decapping die, and found it was opening my flash holes. Glad I read this thread I probably would have never noticed it.

Dont make the hole bigger... thats a big part of why the 47 shoots so good. Its made small primer pocket for a reason.

I will also vouch for Forster dies, they're excellent for this cartridge.
