Hi All

I am thinking of shortening 6.5x47 Lapua to 20 or 18". Does anyone have any info on what the likely muzzle velocity would be. I intend to use 95 to 120 grain bullets as a 200 mtr deer and vermin rifle so there is no need to push the velocities, I would rather maintain case life. Also has anyone found that accuracy suffers from this cartridge in a shorter barrel.

Many thanks

Re: 6.5x47 barrrel length

The Quickload program can figure out the velocities, if you know the bullet, powder, powder charge, cartridge over all length, and barrel length.

I have a 260Rem.
With 100 gr Nosler Ballistic tips moly coated, IMR4895, 45 gr, 2.940" OAL, 22" barrel:
Quickload predicts 3261 fps 61,328 psi.
It chronographs 3236 fps.

If I enter 18" barrel, Quickload predicts 3102 fps, a 159 fps decrease.
