I am working on finishing an SBR build (also waiting on ATF paperwork). I have installed a Noveske 12.5" crusader barrel in 6.8 SPC with a 1/12" twist and .
I originally got to the idea for this for close in shots (<300 yards) for deer and pigs but I have recently been bit by the 3 Gun bug and am wondering if a rifle like mine will be able to compete out to 600 yards.
Has anyone else has any experience with something like this in terms of accuracy? Any ammo or load recommendations?

Re: 6.8 SPC SBR at Long Ranges

Here is some info I copied from AR15.
Plugging it into my ballistics is showing something like 26 MOA drop at 600 and 10 MOA for a 10mph wind from 3:00. All for a 100 yd zero. This is of course very ROUGH estimates and by no means relates to accuracy.

Re: 6.8 SPC SBR at Long Ranges

this is my .02 cents on this subject:

i run a 18" 6.8 on 3gun comp for couple competitions and it boil down to money, 6.8 is a good knocking down round; but it cost over $1 per round.
i can run a ar10 308 it cost me less than the 6.8 or even go to a 223 with 77gr bullet and is cheaper still and achive the same results.
for deer hunting, hogs is a perfect round since most of the hunts will be at close range.

hope this helps

Ahh! Don't you hate when you finally find the perfect weapon/caliber and then find out that it won't work out for every task?
I didn't build this for 3 gun, mainly for killing pigs, deer and anything else. Was hoping it would work for monthly 3 gun matches but the cost is a bummer. Guess its time to build another upper in 5.56.
Anyone else using 6.8 SPC for 3 Gun?

Re: 6.8 SPC SBR at Long Ranges

There's a couple guys over at the 6.8 forum who have done it. Reloading makes this cartridge considerably cheaper. Just try to recover as much brass as possible after the match, or use a brass catcher (sucks for stoppages). If you don't reload you should be able offload your 6.8 brass on the 6.8 forum for $.25-.30 each (you can also buy them for that if your quick). If you find a deal on Hornady or SSA (deals are $15-16 a box) then sell you brass your at $10-11 a box. Reloads cost even less, but it's still not cheap.

I run .223 and 6.8 uppers that are identical except color and caliber. If I want to put a ton of rounds downrange I shoot the .223, for most everything else I use the 6.8. I swap an Aimpoint T-1 and Nightforce 2.5-10 between the two, but the .223 ends up wearing the Aimpoint most of the time.
