I am hearing basically two camps on this topic and would like to hear about your process. One is, long free bore to “keep the bullet above the donut”. I also hear of people successfully running freebore lengths in the .104-.105” range. For those running the “shorter” freebores, how are you mitigating the affects of the donut? I think I know the answer, but tell me anyway.

not Dasher, but I neck up Lapua 6.5x284 for my 284lapua. Same deal, shoulder becomes neck. My final sizing step is to run the cases through a K&M .002" NT mandrel. It pushed the extra to the outside. This can be done with an expander ball too, if you don't want the extra step.

Typically donuts are most commonly and issue with necking up a case such as mentioned above with 6.5x284. For my 284, I seat the bullet above the donut since I don't like to have any type of reaming tool to touch the inside of the neck. The freebore for my Dasher is .142 which also allows me to seat above the donut with longer bullets as well as provide more case capacity.
