what are the better scopes in this range, i just sold a falcon 10x42 and personally it rocked glass looked pretty good to me tracked well, how ever i see allot of other names out their such as counter sniper, weaver tactical and such personally i have been looking at another falcon such as 4-14 or 5-25, how ever a user here told me his falcon 5-25 kinda sucked, that glass sucked the knobs feel cheap, that kinda makes me a little nervy in getting another falcon.

I have though about the vortex viper, but i like the hash mark cross hairs over the mill dot cross hairs and have also though about a low end horus scope.

if you have any scopes you would like to inform me about or wanna tell me what sux in this price range and whats worth the money that would rock.

thanks in advance

James

Look at WOTAC. Matt is a great guy and the glass is pretty good. It compares to the Falcon that you sold. I have a Falcon Menace and love it. If I remember right his web page is www.sightwonders.com.

I would also look at the Millett Side Focus 30mm 4-16x50 Tactical.

i dont wanna get to cheap and just throw my money away.

i dont want a barska but i cannot afford a hensoldt I am leaning tword the falcon, i have had such good luck with my 10x42 and for the price i feel the glass is pretty cool.

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

I would be weary of Falcon, Wotac, Counter Sniper. All have some significant challenges to producing good glass with reliable mechanicals. Their resale value is mediocre, and their reputation the same. As for the Millet, here is a thread which compares it to the SS: not in the same class.

If you want a tactical scope under $600, the outstanding (and pretty much only) choice in the cateogry for good quality scopes is the SS 3-9x42 FFP sold by SWFA, for $540 with the hide coupon. They also have excellent fixed scopes, 6x, 10x/ 10xHD, 16x and 20x (I like them all, but the 20x is my least favorite). My favorites are the 3-9x FFP, the 10x, and the 10xHD.

If you want a hunting scope, there are myriads of choices, but I would mention Zeiss Conquest, Vortex Viper, and Kahles CL (sold by CDNN) are the best choices for the money. The Kahles are a phenomenal choice for the money/glass ratio. I would also look at Minox and Meopta. The Leupold VX3 is also a very good made in USA choice for a hunting scope.

Very well said. I have two of the 3-9 and one 10X. Exelent value. The 10X HD is currently on the sample list at $699.00.

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

Aaaaarrrggghhhhh! You mentioned the "CS" name! Wash your mouth with soap and hide as there will be flames, I'm sure.

As far as Falcon is concerned I've never had one - must be emphasized. I was seriously considering one but saw posts with a lot of problems. Also saw posts say they were great. This suggests "luck of the draw" also defined as poor quality control. The way to deal with it is to buy from a reliable source to whom you can return it. I didn't buy one because I prefer rolling dice on the table.

To answer your question, Bushnell Elite (4200 and up) is good, Weaver, Sightron is supposed to be very good, some say a step up from the ones mentioned. Midway had Sightron fixed 10x in the mid $500. range. Variables usually are about $800. And, of course, SS from SWFA. That's it in your range. Otherwise you're going to have to go over $1000. to US Optics, Nightforce and S&B (much over $1,000. like 2x) territory.

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

nother super sniper fanboy here, ive got 3, friends have 3 more, all are perfect. they were the only scope below 1k the instructors at my class would recomend. over the years they had only seen one fail, and it was from gross abuse

ive tried a few feature laden budget scopes, all have failed

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

Here is a scope well below your budget for a scope...darn good Japanese glass and good features you should like. Own two of this brand and well pleased with it. ATK owns this brand and also Weaver...so it is basically a Weaver Super Slam scope that has been discontinued and price reduced plus brand has a $100 rebate to lower price even more. Heck of a scope for heck of a price.

Do yourself a favor and consider this scope...other models available.

DUDE,you have been a member here for over 3 years, how many threads on these have you seen in that time ? Only the "Contract Overruns" are junk, meant for the Weekend Sniper. The really good ones will set you back from $5000-7000 easy. These have the Non-Hazing Zatrillium/Bentanium Photon Coated glass with the Unobtanium Tube. You need a Special Rail on your Barrel with these to compensate for the Rearward looking Sunshade. It slides forward as the shadows get longer.

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

I have a pair of Falcon 4x14 and have had excellent tracking with both. I just picked up a SS 3x9 and when comparing at the same magnification the SS is brighter with better edge to edge clarity. I have not had a chance to check the tracking on the SS but I dont think there will be any issues. The only thing I really like better about the falcon is the reticle, I like the has marks at 1/2mil, makes it easier for me to use holdovers than picking a space between the dots.

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

I just picked up a Weaver tactical. For being ffp with Japanese glass and right in the $600 range I think its a lot of scope for the money. Only shortcoming is that its a mi-dot reticle with MOA turrets. I'd prefer an MOA/MOA scope. The locking turrets and quick reset-to-zero features are nice as well.

Re: 600 dollar and under scope choices ?

Just another spin on your post.

I have seen some good glass come through the O&P For Sale thread on the hide.
Me personally….I would save a few more bucks, be patient and buy a used US Optics or similar scope from one of the hide members.
Just a thought. Hope this helps....
