6mm ARC Load Data

Has anybody made 6arc out of lapua 220 Russian yet ? Seriously thinking about putting a 6arc spr type rifle together but I hate hornady brass and that's all I see out there right now.

Production is on hold but MHS got a batch this week. Near impossible to find otherwise.

I see some people having trouble with bulging the base of the 6.5 Grendel Lapua brass due the web not being as thick as Hornady brass.

I've got some case forming questions that hopefully you all can help with. First, can I just resize grendel brass with a Lee 6 ARC collet die? Or do I need a FL sizer die? Second, is there any reason I can't trim the grendel brass first, then size, to get the shorter case length? I don't see a Wilson case holder for the ARC, but I do see it for the Grendel. Thanks.

I've never used a collet die? Resize my Grendel to ARC with a FL Wilson die and trim after. Shoulders need to be pushed back & neck length grows during the sizing so I think it best to trim after.

Yep, same here:

  1. size brass with 6ARC die
  2. trim
That last part was a source of headaches for me early on. I wasn't trimming far enough and a number of times at the range I had cycles where the bolt wouldn't lock. Turns out I didn't do a thorough enough trim and failed to double-check. Instead, I did it by feel and as it turned out I was trimming pretty close to my max length (whoops). So once I worked out the issue I put a sticky note above my press reminding me to trim to 1.484"

A Lee collet die only works inside a small window as far as neck diameter goes. I use a FL die.

OK, once fired converted Lapua Grendel brass
Fed GMM AR primer
LeverRevolution powder
Berger 105g Hybrids
84*
3600' DA
19% Relative Humidity
22" Shaw 1:7.5 twist barrel
SilencerCo Omega 300 can.

Looks like 30.2g gave me best SD and good velocity. I might load up another batch with 30.0-30.4 in 1g increments to see what happens. This gun will be used in PRS type matches, so as long as I'm sub-MOA that's sufficient. (The X'd out bulleyes were from another gun setting zero.)

Figured I would share some 16in Gas Gun loads I have finished as keep going to finish up a 90 ELD-X (tried 90gr Sierra TGK with LVR, wasn't very good grouping and way too dirty and stinky) and 105 Berger VLD-H next. I'm using Varget and XBR8208 as I have on hand and love the consistency and low temp sensitivity of both! I have some Shooters World Precision (I need to see if someone with QL to check data as GRT isn't matching speeds I'm seeing in real world for the 105. PM me if you can help out or post here for others to learn. I'm looking for 105 Berger VLD-H or Barnes Match Burner with SWP starting @ 25.8gr with .3gr steps and a COL of 2.260 using 62psi max and case with 34.4gr h2o so I can see for bolt gun also.) that I got on the cheap but have only loaded for bolt gun for now. I have tried LeverR but man, it stinks tooooo bad and I shoot suppressed 99.99% of the time, the speed ain't worth it combined with temp sensitivity. *I may do another post with my bolt gun loads as well but I think gas gun loads with the shorter barrels are more useful to the community.

These were shot out of my 16in LaRue MRU with SiCo Omega hanging off the end.

Cases are made from virgin Starline 6.5 grendel, 34.4gr h2o and trimmed to 1.475. Upper has about 150 rounds through it and I broke in using Mark LaRue's method (nothing too crazy). I'm very happy with the way this gun shoots and can't wait to get out in the field for some coyote, prairie dogs and pigs in the summer. 😎

Loads are as follows:

Hornady 65gr V-Max
CCI #41
XBR 8208 29.7gr (approx 2980fps)
COL 2.090

Barnes 105gr Match Burner
CCI #41
Varget 26.7gr (*approx 2440)
COL 2.270

Finally got out to get some load data. Noveske 18 inch 6arc barrel with an omega on an area 419 adapter, berger 108 bt's, leverevolution, cci 450's and 1x fired hornady brass got some good results at 100 yards. I think the final load will be 30 grains of lever, bullets are mag length in an asc mag don't have the COAL numbers in front of me.

I picked up some Starline brass formed from 220 Russian cases. Uses large rifle primer versus small rifle primer in the Hornady brass. Had to load them .5 grain lighter than Hornady 6 ARC brass. Strange thing was I was getting over 100 FPS faster loads than 30.5 g. on the Hornady brass using 87 gr. Hornady V-max. bullets. Right in the 2900 fps range out of an 18" Proof barrel. Settled on 30g. of LeverEvolution. Groups in the .5" MOA range. Hope that helps.
