6X5 Thread V5.0 *new 1/1/21*

Here’s my first entry of the year. Nothing earth shattering but I’m definitely out of practice being this is only the second time to shoot in almost 2 months. Shot this after chronographing several different brands and lots.
only 400rds down the barrel so far.

Excellent shooting. Good to know that Green Mountain's reputation from the 10/22 world also translates to RimX platforms.
I may have to give it some serious consideration in the future.
Cheers,

Nice shooting. Your largest group size is smaller than my entire average.
Welcome back from the future (2-9-21) 😊
cheers and good shootin’

Travelor, nice shooting. But I have a question, I averaged your groups and came up with 0.264”. I took your raw group size and rounded to the nearest thousandth of and inch: 0.219” + 0.243” + 0.312” + 0.200” + 0.353” + 0.258 = 1.585” / 6 = 0.264”

I just wanted to verify before I put it on the results. **I always round to the nearest thousandth of and inch to keep it a bit more simple and b/c it is VERY difficult to measure a group to the ten thousandth.

Happy New Year everyone! Had some decent conditions and a little time, so i got to do a bit of shooting today. Bad news is my better lots of CX are gone...Big step down in accuracy with the remaining lots, which are the top 2 rows

best 50yd group .144” .275moa
100yd 6x5 .748” .715moa

SCRAM2013, your welcome to post anything at any time here as far as I am concerned. We are all here to learn and everyone has value to add.

One recommendation on targets, those shoot and see are very difficult to measure group size on. I am looking forward to seeing some of your targets soon.
Jbell I see you have met my cousin! Scram2013, I served with jbell in the corps, small world!

jbell, 100 yard 6x5 attached for your review. Temp was 32F, Wind was NW 3-5mph, Humidity 76%. Rifle - 2500x Custom KSS, Scope - Athlon 10x40, Ammo - Eley Match. Wind was a little twitchy this morning, switching directions. 3 of 6 bulls suffered from wind inflluence, spreading the group out a bit. I will shoot better when I get a steadier wind (or learn to read it better). Flags were not showing a cross-wind, but the target did...

Overall Average = 0.688, Best Group = 0.368.

Thanks!

Here is my first submission to the 6x5 Challenge. I had some spare time when I got off work today. Temp was 48*, prone on bipod and rear bag, wind 3-5 in my face. I shot 10 rounds on the KYL rack at the same distance before the 30 rounds on paper. I am really enjoying my Bergara B14R.

Defender32, welcome! I am going to need some measurements of those groups before I can get you on the results.

Thought I would post this since match ammo is tough to get And I found it interesting. Pretty good for inexpensive ammo.

jbell, I have a question for you. Yesterday, I went to the range to shoot some samples of new Eley Match lots. I shoot 10 - 5-shot groups (1 box of each lot) in series. Do the rules allow me to pick the best 6 consecutive groups from the 10 that I shot and submit them for the 50 yard 6x5? If not, then do I pick the first 6, or the last 6? If you can advise me on the proper approach, I may have a submission for you.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

My first time with the 6x5. I measured edge to edge and subtracted .222. I hope that is correct.

They are the aiming point. It is designed so that as you shoot the point of aim remains consistent as opposed to being degraded by rounds punching holes in it.

That is damn good especially considering the air temp. I have it updated.
Thanks jbell. I think that's the coldest temp I have ever shot in. Eley Match seemed to hang in there though. I ran about a dozen rounds through the rifle to "warm it up", and that seemed to help. It was pretty consistent throughout the 6 bulls. Ammo was stored inside the house overnight, and then exposed on the table for 15-30 minutes prior to shooting.

Impressive shooting! I thought that the cold temps may affect non-biathlon ammo, but your groups are outstanding.
Cheers, happy shooting

doodle 2229, welcome. That is a good shooting CZ especially with the SK. I have you on the results.

Hey...did I miss something?
I don't see any 17hm2 results.
Aren't they supposed to be a super accurate cartridge?
22lr, 17hmr and 22wmr results are in the list....where's the 17hm2?

Instigator? Who? Me? :D

You should shoot and post some. The 17's do shoot good and are accurate but none of the available ammo is true match grade so it makes printing 30 great shots in a row really tough to do. In addition those tiny bores foul with copper really quickly further degrading your accuracy potential. Sometimes I could get close to 1/2 moa for a few groups but usually they are closer to 1moa most of the time. Your results may vary. Plus I never had a really match grade 17. They are all box stock Savages. I have a 17M2 bbl coming from Lilja for my Quad. I am hoping that it coupled with some old lots of Eley ammo might change my mind.

Irish, no 17hm2 in my collection.
Never needed one. 17hmr does the job, even out past 200 yards.
17 hm2 shows keyholing at 200 yards.
I'd like to see all 50 shots on one target at 100 yards with the hm2.
Few are willing to do so, possibly due to less than desired results.

ive got a cheapo marlin hm2 ill drag along next time. havent shot it in years...i predict the results will be, um, worth a good laugh anyway

Rimfire is so unpredictable. I started not to go to the club today because of the weather, but did anyway. I wanted to try out my new bipod, ten round mags and bag I bought in preparation for my first NRL22 match. This is my first time shooting from a bipod. (I shot from prone for the first time today too.)I was in the process of setting a 50 yard zero. My first shots (3) on the upper left was .4 Mils high. I decided to shoot two more shots before adjusting the scope since it was looking to be a good group. It was a heck of a five shot group. I saw I had enough in that box for a 6x5 so I adjusted and kept going. This is my best one to date and I’ll probably never best it. By the last group I was nervous, trying not to blow it. The target stand was rocking back and forth and I had wait for it to stop moving. The target was so wet I was afraid it would tear apart when I was taking it down. Anyway, I beat my previous entry.
