7 Rem Mag - 7 WSM - 7-08

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

EOS,

Try 67 grain H1000. I show no pressure sign and gets good MV. Also shoots superb groups. I tested out to 200 yards this past weekend and it shot less than 1/2" - 3 shots. I also have a 24" 5C Broughton built by LSR. Yours too?

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Correct.

http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthre...3967#Post543967

67g H1000 seemed hot, flattened out cratered primer. My bolt lift is always smooth....its a LSR!

I think im gonna try some magpro a little later also.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

7WSM
Win Brass
162AMAX kissin the lands
64.5 RL22
Fed210M
3090FPS via 27" tube.
7FPS ES for 5shots.

65grns of RL22 shot well also. Velocity differnce was nill and ES was a good bit higher.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

So, I've got a 28" Rock tube on the way, and a pile of 180 Bergers at the house. I have a little re22, and a lot of re25.
I'd prefer to shoot up the 25, but I also don't want to cut any corners just because it's a little more convinent. I know 22 is probably one of the most popular choices, but it eems like the 25 ought to work fine, especially figuring the 28" barrel and heavy bullets.
I know the best way to approach would be to experiment, but I'd just as soon knock out load development pretty quickly without wasting a bunch of barrel life chasing diminishing returns.
Any thoughts?

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Good catch, 7mmRM. It's going to be a 7mmRM.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Excellent choice!

Never messed with '25, but '22 did pretty good. Retumbo, and '19 have been the best for me.

Fed 215Ms get the nod also.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

retumbo's supposed to be a little slower than 25, so i imagine it ought to work.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

soon as i get my barrel from the group buy, and gap screws it to my action, i will.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

RL-25 shot great in my 7WSM with the Berger 180s (only gave it up because of the HOT summer temps in Vegas), so it should work just as good in your 7Mag.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Load for my 7/300 wsm, it's very close to the 7WSM

WLR primers, WW .270 WSM Brass necked up and turned, 180 Berger VLD's +.010" in the lands, 66.5 grains of RL-25, 2,900 fps. Tack driving accuracy, during testing this load has shot under .25 moa to 420 yards.

66.2 RL25 and 62.0 H4831 also shot very good but 66.5 was the best load. All three combined during testing shot a combined average group of .353"

66.5 RL-25 WLR Primer WW Brass 180 Berger .010" in the lands
67.0 RL-25 WLR Primer WW Brass 168 Berger .010" in the lands

Both loads are sub .250" MOA

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Thanks for the RL-25 input guys. My barrel should be shipping today, so hopefully next week I can get it all boxed up and sent to GAP next week some time. I've got almost 10lbs of powder sitting around waiting for it.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

My build is almost hear. Need to decide on the powder. Rifle is a WSM 26" Broughton and will be only shooting 180gr Bergers. Running numbers through QL, RL19 looks like it should be slow enough for me to push the 180s hard enough around 2900 FPS and not run into pressure signs. Jered told me to use 4831SC, it looks like I should be able to get decent velocities out of that powder too. But it looks like everyone else is using slower powders like RL22 and RL25. Which one to choose from? I don't want to waste money on 4 different powders when I don't have to..... might as well right? I spent enough on the rifle. :p

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Does anyone have a good mulie hunting load for a 7mag with H4831 and a 140 gr TSX? I generally load for 150 gr Nosler BTs (not for hunting) and have never used the 7 mag for hunting before. So I picked up the TSX's and have a lot of H4831 around that I'd like to use for this.

The rifle is a Sigarms SHR970.

Thanks

I'm using 66.5 grains of RL-25, WLR primers and the 180 Bergers +.010" in the L&G's. 2,900 fps is easy on the brass and it absolutly hammers. Drills tacks too boot. Mine is a 7-300WSM on a 9 twist Kreiger. I think it'll be so close to a 7WSM that it'll be same/same. Start at 64 grains and work up.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

7mm SAUM

162 grain AMAX. OAL 2.970, Win LRM primer
62.9 grains Winchester WXR (QL calc pressure 59k)

168 SMK OAL 2.885 Win LRM primer
59.8 grains Winchester WXR (QL calc pressure 52K)

60.2 grains of AA3100 seems to work fairly well also.

7mm SAUM...the other short mag.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag

I have great success useing IMR7828. I developed a load for my rifle useing a prowley slide rule. It is 67.0 grns IMR7828 with a 150sptz and a win mag primer. This load is very acurate but it has a serious recoil and it is hard not to develop a flinch. I also neck sise and seat the bullet to touch the groves.
I donot have access to a chrono but, the slide rule figures 2950 fps

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag

I use H1000 since I moved to Vegas, as RL-25 didn't like the HOT summers here and I didn't want to develope two loads one for each season. I'm using 66.3 gr of H1000 behind my 180 Bergers as my F-Class load (but my OAL is 3.29"). Its a hammer.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag

You guys are beyond me with the match/target loads on any 7mm.I have owned and loaded(for hunting)7x57,7-08,.280 remand the much maligned 7mm rem mag.the latter being my favorite due to its ability to breath fire and remain fairly accurate. The last one I worked with was a Remington "costume shop" African Plains Rifle.I wont bore you to sleep with the GREAT number of powders and bullets that(no other way to say it)sucked. After a lot of testing, with an ohler 43,the dropem in their tracks load was federal brass,a 160 accubond,74 grains of magnum all sparked by a fed. 215 match primer. Before you draw and quarter me for groose overload, the brass and the numbers on the strain guage were(barely)in the green. set at .020 off the lands and concintricity runout at no more than.002,this load through the 26"barrel clocked just under 3200 fps and put 3 shots under a 1/2 ".As you well know most 7mm mag data is weak due to the cartridges tendenses for wild preasure swings and I admitt it can and often is a bitch to get right, but sighted 2" high at 150 yds. you better not hold outside the "sweet spot" out to 400.and thats about as far as I can "consistantly" make good hits from a improvised field postion. Oh and by the way;it did terrible nasty things when it arrived. This rifle was somewhat of an annomaley in that it took more propellant than most others I had worked with, that said,if you work with most magnums and use caution they can be some real heart breakers( for the game anyway)

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag

Golden Load
7mm RemMag Sendero 26"tube
140 gr TTSX or MRX (the MRX is a bit more accurate, .376 MOA)
IMR 4831 62g
Fed215primer
COAL 3.260

Everything went to hell in a hand basket when I lenghtened the OAL and increase the charge to 63g

Gonna work on some bergers and AB next.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

New best load for my 7mmRM
Weatherby Vangard
Nosler brass
CCI 250
H1000 - 70gr
168gr SMK
OAL 3.530

shooter handycaped 3/4" groops. I'm guessing it could do better, but I know I suck so I'll leave it at that.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

Hey Taco, 2.800 oal? how far are you from the lands? Thought my chamber was short... 2.865 oal. replaced my bottom metal and installed a HS mag system and now have to seat them .030 deeper now to fit the mag useing 162 a-max.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

any loads of H4350 for 162 amax or 168 bergers in 7wsm

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

New load for Amax 162 molys

Nosler brass
CCI 250
H1000 - 72gr
and of corse the amax 162

I don't have the OAL right now but I wanna say 3.55 or something

I can't shoot for shit but the four shots that go where they are supossed to create on hole about the size of a 40 cal.

Rifle is a Wetherby Vangard.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

had a quick question for you guys.
I just recently picked up a hornady oal gauge and comprator. My normal load was 7 wsm with an OAL of 2.965" w/ a 175 smk bullet. I was getting hit or miss accuracy (.295-1 moa) mainly due to me loading on OAL vs o give I am assuming. So I use the OAL gauge as instructed, get a reading of 3.151", 3.152", & 3.151" (This would be the oal with the bullet touching the lands (cant move any further)).
I am wondering if i am doing something wrong as I am sifting through this thread and dont see anyones OAL that long for a 7wsm using a similar bullet. Measured to the Ogive using the comparator and I got lengths of 2.508", 2.507", 2.507".

Any help would be appreciated.

7mm Rem mag 26" Krieger;
Rem brass
Fed 215 primer
162 gr AMAX
67 grains of R22
3.395 COAL, .010 off lands
No chrono yet

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

7 wsm built by Beanland
Surgeon RSR, 28" Krieger MTU
.010" Jump, Fits in accurate mag

62.5gr RL17
162 AMAX
Avg. 3166
ES = 19
Under 1/2 MOA
Another .5 gr and I had a slight ejector wipe

69.5gr H1000
162 AMAX
Avg. 3028
ES = 23
WELL under 1/2 MOA
Started getting compressed at 70.0 gr but still no pressure other than a ever so slightly cratered primer.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

7WSM APA built
65.5gr 4831SC
180gr Berger moly
CCI LRM primers
2.960 OAL (magazine fit)
26" Broughton
2980 FPS.

Been shooting this load for the past 400-500 rounds without a problem. Not even measuring to the lands. I think last time it was .140 thousands. Don't shoot at 100 for groups that often, but when I worked up the load the group was .3 something with 3 of the 5 in almost the same hole. Mounted a new scope the other week and got a zero. Only shot one group at .285, not too shabby IMO.

Well I got my 7-08 in a Manners finally and am working on getting it dialed in.

Here's what I tried this week, shot ~1moa at 100, 200, 300, 500 averaged together. Nothing spectacular, but I was just checking the pressure out really. Saw no signs of pressure, so I'm gonna round robin 40.0, 40.3, 40.6 to see which is best:

162 Amax
2.835 OAL (unmodified AICS mag/R700SA)
Necked down R&P 308 brass
40.3gr IMR 4895
CCI primers

2630 avg fps

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

My pet loads for 7mm-08:

150 MatchKing
Lapua 308 brass resized
BR2 primers
39.0 RL15
OAL = 2.810

Rifle is a Savage Target Action and 24" Douglas XX barrel with SSS brake, 1:9 twist.

I'm working around the next node of RL15, seems to be at 41.1gr.

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

7 mag
reloader 17 is the best so far glad I tried it crazy small groups a little slow but room to work up
162 amax 2900 fps
24" tube

Re: Loads for 7 Rem Mag-7 WSM-7-08

7 WSM 61.5 gr. of H1000 behind either a Berger 180 or a JLK 180 for about 2830-2850 FPS. Not a hot load for this caliber. You can go up 2-3 gr. I keep it lower pressure because I'm easily getting the velocity without the super high pressure.

Winchester 70 rifle w/ 1-9.5" twist stainless barrel. Pushed much slower and the bullets don't stabilize from that twist.

Accuracy seemed to be a little bit better before I put on the muzzle brake. But is currently shooting .75-1 MOA.
