So I have taken on a long term project. Picked up a 700 AAC in 308. 1:10 twist barrel. With the limited resources out there for reloading components I an hoping to get at least a starting point for her. What are people loading for this system? I have some Sierra 2155 MatchKing 30 Cal .308 155 gr Hollow Point Boat-Tail and mostly mixed brass but I do have a few Once fired Lapua Match brass as a starting point. Is this bullet too light for the twist?

I am looking to build "Wish Lists with Grafs, and others like this but would like some guidance on the components I need to "Wish List."

TIA for any help.

Blue’s TACA1: The 308 Win is a very forgiving cartridge to handload for . Ive heard Lapua brass is a well respected brand of brass , i would start there for your load development. The 155 Gr is well know for going out to 1,000 yards . If you have the Sierra 5th manual there’s plenty of data with their 155 Gr Matchking .

I own same rifle used for hunting only

Hated 180 SST
Loves 150 SST

The 180 were hand loads with Lapua brass and IMR 4064

150 are fiocchi factory ammo

The 155 is a little light for 1 in 10 twist but you are shooting a shorter barrel (20” or less). You should be fine. As powders go, look at IMR4064, 8208XBR, Reloader 15, or dare I say, Varget. N140 is Sierra’s accuracy powder in the 6th Edition.

THANK YOU! I will look into the book.

Relative to brass most any brass I’ve shot in 308 has had good results, Winchester, Lake City, Federal, Lapua. The benefit of Lapua is its packaging is more protective so its less damaged and is very uniform in weight. Lapua may very a grain or so for 100 pieces while others may very 3 grains or more.

Reloading 308 pretty much requires a minor in brass. Depending on manufacturer the capacity can very by as much as 5%. Take some time and research “308 brass capacity”.

I had some good luck with the 155 sierra in my 16" AAC 700 behind a load of H4895. It works just fine in that twist, don't worry one bit.

These days if you don't already have a pile of powder you'll just have to shoot what you can get your hands on.

Do you have anything other than the bullet and brass?
