so my bolt is sloppy at the end its stroke i guess if thats the right term, as well as my buddies bolt on his as well. im wondering if everyones is like this? and is it just remington making a half assed unit? i mean i love the way it shoots, just wierd that it would be like that?

Re: 700 actions, always loose?

its called field tolerance. if it were to much tighter you wouldn't be able to use it if it got alittle dirt in there. if you are looking for benchrest tolerances you should seek out a custom action made specifically for benchrest or f class and make sure you keep your rifle super clean or it won't function.

so yes this is standard but not it is not half assed

Re: 700 actions, always loose?

How loose the bolt is, when the action is open, has no bearing on how well it shoots. The only thing that matters is it locks up tight and square. IMO some slop is good as it's easier to run the bolt fast and it can tolerate being dirty.
