7mm WSM ammo choices

I am on the verge of ordering a GAP Crusader. I was planning on ordering a 308 however I have cold feet at the last second and am debating a 7mm wsm. My current issue is that I dont reload, dont have space at the moment. I was planning on using southwest ammo for 308 loads, but if I go with a 7mm wsm I have no idea where to get accurate "custom" loads. Any ideas of where to get loaded 180 bergers or suggestions of ammo?

Re: 7mm WSM ammo choices

It sounds like you're just getting into the sport. If you don't reload, I don't think a 7WSM is the proper round for you at this point. I'm a big fan of the 308, but if you're looking for a little more performance, check out the 6.5s. Once you get that first rifle, then start reloading for it to get its maximum potential. Once that max potential doesn't suit your needs, THEN you go with a big boomer like a 7WSM or a 300WM.

I'd also say that you don't need to have a brand-spankin' new 308 to get started (though they are nice). There are quality 308s coming up on the for sale boards every day. I'd just make a list of the options you want and the price you're willing to pay to get them. Once you see a good deal, hop on it, and use the savings to get better glass. Just my 2 cents.

McCourt on here is currently working up 7wsm loads and pricing. I think you'll be very happy with his pricing and performance.

Re: 7mm WSM ammo choices

The question is how much are you going to shoot it. If you have access to a range or area to shoot a lot and at range its a toss up. If you not gonna shoot a lot I'd get the 7WSM but if your gonna shoot a lot then the 308 will probably be the better choice. When you order your rifle see how much it would be to have both barrels chambered. You can always switch barrels later.

Re: 7mm WSM ammo choices

Personally, I would get my foundation built first and get reloading equipment before jumping into a custom built rifle that shoots really expensive ammo. That is, unless you have the money to do so. My first bolt gun was a 7WSM, but I had reloading equipment already from loading pistol and 223 for my ARs. I shot the crap out of the first barrel before even getting my .308. And even then, I would rather shoot the 7WSM then the .308

Re: 7mm WSM ammo choices

I really like my 7mm WSM, but would have to agree that if you don't reload it isn't worth it. Unless of course you can afford shooting Corbon 7mm WSM in volume.

If you don't reload and want better performance than a 308win, then I would pick a 6.5 Creedmoor or 260rem instead. Cheaper to shoot and less recoil. Match grade loaded ammo available in those rounds as well.

Mr. gunslinger07 Sir,

We need to chat, give me details on bullet you want to use and I'll get you some #s to review.

Working up some 7 WSM ammo for a customer in his RWS built rifle.

Several ways to approach this to keep your cost as low as possible. PM me and we'll get you some optimized ammo for your rifle. I load for both 308, 7 WSM and pretty much any other caliber you might want to get!

Re: 7mm WSM ammo choices

I currently own a 7mm wsm, my first rifle aside from a .22. I would not say I'm new to the sport, been doing it all my life, I just have never had the space to reload. I've owned my fair share of different 308's, sold them all after awhile. I am a huge fan of the 7mm wsm though. I'll pm you later mccourt when I get home.
