I have a opportunity to pick up a 338 bbl blank in 1-8.5" twist shorty 23" barrel. I have a lapua already with a 9.3. Wanted to hear what the down low is on these baby's. Anyone have a fast twist 338?

Anyone? I know it can be used for subsonics if chambered into a 338 blackout type build. But us 8.5 just too fast for the 300s in a mag caliber?
1-9.3 isn't what I'm concerned about. I am looking for someone running a fast twist barrel at the 8.5 or similar rate.
I have a 22" 1-8 twist that shoots lights out. NO problems AT ALL with 300 SMKS or boogers.

Also, similar to 308, you don't lose a lot with a short barrel 338. 92gr of H100 moving 300's 2720 is supersonic way past a mile. I laugh out loud every time I see/hear about a long barreled 338. No one likes a 30lb rifle.
Obviously if you only have BR plans then yes optimize it. But this isn't a BR site. Think practical.
