The Sig Sauer P226 is one of the most popular semi-automatic 9mm handguns available today. Fans of Sig handguns are in love with the build quality and all metal construction. Detractors point to the lack of an external safety as a negative, since it is not advised to carry it in a "cocked and locked" configuration which a double action/single action trigger configuration with an external safety allows for. Another "down side" is the placement of the slide release, which is fairly far back, thus requiring the user to take particularly care not to let his thumb hit or rest against in order to prevent the slide from locking back on the last round being discharged from the magazine. In terms of accuracy, it is very easily brought on target. Trigger options are available, including the installation of a shorter reset trigger system.
