I went to a gun retailer that I usually steer clear of due to bad attitudes and watching them screw a customer once on a class III sale (gun for cash transaction)… but in fairness that was 10-15 years ago, any who.
A month ago I got a deal I could not turn down on a AICS stock for a long action and need a Remington LA to put in it. So I have been looking around for a 300 or 7mm mag with a varmint/sendero contour. Hence, what brought me to this retailer just to look around…
I found not one but two Remington 5r that I have never seen before. These had been (I assume factory since they have all the stickers on it) carakoted (spelling) black, one was a 223 and the other a 300 win mag and both had the 24” barrel with remingtons useless (but looks nice) extra shallow flutting on varmint contours and what looks like a B&C m40 stock (but may be an H.S. I just have not seen yet) all for the (tongue in cheek) low price of 1199.00
I drove over to my usual dealer and asked about the new sps long range that I had found on Remington’s site and asked if he had made any progress and was told he has both on order but unknown delivery date as his distributor doesn’t know when they will get them in from Remington. I expect I can get into one of these for 600 give or take 50 bucks…
So you see my conundrum… Do I pay 1200 for what will end up being a really nice looking barreled action or wait for a run of the mill sps for half the price? I am in no hurry but dang if those two (223 and 300) look nice.
I am still waiting for my 7.5t .224 rock barrel (ordered back in march) to arrive and my tactical has somewhere between 2 and 3 thousand on it now (maybe even a little more) and while it still shoots good (under .7 moa) I am thinking another 223 isn’t a bad thing to have as my tactical isn’t holding as tight as it once did.
If I purchase one of these 5r’s it would most likely be the 223 and I will just wait how ever long it takes for the SPS LR to show up…
But…
My gut tells me 1200 is too much for any factory Remington, give me some feed back…
I should have just avoided this place like I normally do in the first place, LOL!
