A good all around tactical rifle sling

Guys I'm looking for a good all around tactical sling to go with my 5r in the factory HS stock. I thought about going straight with a turner saddlery sling but wanted to see what you guys are using.

My needs will be a sling that will aid in standing and sitting while shooting. It must so be comfortable when slung on long hauls through the elements.

A leather Turner is hard to beat, one that has been taken care of, oiled like clock work, and carefully broken in.

that is until I won a TAB sling at a match. Never thought about anything else.

The sling is way faster to get slung up with than a 1903 Leather sling. It is way faster to get out of. The webbing sling will not stretch over time, the claw holes will not wear out or stretch out. Turner warrants their stuff for life, and TAB will take care of you equally as long.

Functionally, it preforms the same task as the 1903 sling, just faster, and with much less effort.

Of the major makers I prefer Tony's sling (TAB). I just wish he'd make one adjustable to suck up next to the rifle when not in use.

I also have good luck with old M1 web slings....

ok the TAB sling looks very good what's the Fastex Buckles set up like?
or are you better off with a plain sling...no buckles

Just to be different - Tactical Intervention Specialist (TIS) but I also own a TAB and like them both.

You don't need the buckle upgrade IMO. The plastic ones are strong.

The TAB is the way to go, plastic now a days is stronger then you could ask for, silent, takes scratchs and will not transfer heat. If you are out in the sun all day metal gets hot

The TAB sling looks pretty simple and well made but my only other concern would be comfort. How wide is the nylon?

If your woried about it digging in at the neck you could add a Hawktex pad. Blackhawk sells them and the velcro on. Nice pc of kit, have one on my CQC sling........bolt gun you will want to be able to wrap the sling for steady shots so thin sling and good pad work well. Wide slings tend to cover and hinder gear use on your kit not to mention coms wires.

When the words "tactical rifle sling" are uttered I think of a sling that has features that primarily aid the shooter in the process of shooting, with the function of carrying comfort of the rifle a distant consideration.

There are many slings out there that are made in reverse-with the primary function being a comfortable carry strap that can be used as a "hasty" sling for supported shooting.
They do not look as good in "mulitcam safe jewelry" pictures however, and you will be shunned online.

Seriously, the TAB sling's nylon is wide enough that it is fine for humping your rifle, and it is great in its role as a support for actually shooting the rifle.

Pick the right tool for the job, but in order to do that you need to be clear on what job you are wanting to accomplish.

I'd hate to think what a paracord loop would do to one's arm if used as a sling .....

I have a Tab elite sling and find it very effective for kneeling and sitting however for standing I don't find a sling very effective unless using the hasty method. Maybe I am doing something wrong.
