So on March 5th of this year I transferred agencies. At the former I was issued a Sig 226. Good gun, but I was excited to get a Glock 17 at my new PD. Being a huge Glock fan, I opted to not buy the Sig (my former PD was transitioning to Glocks and selling off the old Sigs).

Well here recently I have regretted not buying my first duty handgun for nostalgia. So I called the LE distributer the Sigs were sold to. Lady said they sold it to a local gunshop. Called said shop, they said they sold it a few weeks earlier to an individual. Thought... oh well, it ain’t meant to be...

Was at a recent PD open range day and a certain officer in my new PD had a SAO 226. I casually mentioned I was issued a 226 at my former PD. He asked what the SN was and I told him without hesitation. He laughed and told me he had the exact gun! I told him to name his price if he were willing to sell it.

Well, an FN action and MCM A3 sell later and got the cash for it.

Today he handed me my first duty gun back into my hands! Super thrilled that it was finally able to make its way into my hands!

And a pic from tonight (not the same issued SN Streamlight, but the same model):

Life lesson... ALWAYS buy your service gun unless it will cause your kids to hunger or your mortgage to be late!

Edit to ask: Anyone know of a good kydex holster that will fit onto a Sarfariland QLS Fork? Would love a T-Rex Arms Ragnarok but they don't make one for this gun/light combo.

Not many options for a P226 with a light mounted. Without the light I use Safariland 6378 ALS (thumb release) and the newer GLS; (middle finger release) both can be mounted with QLS system. The 6378 for the P226 is also available in the new USN low signature cammo model ( my Beretta 92 shown).

Gorgeous piece, I’m sure you really enjoy that. May I ask what model it is?

Yeah I know I could get a Safariland just like it was carried in, but would rather not spend that much on a holster for a gun I wouldn’t use too often. Like I said, big Glock fan, bigger fan of my 34. Might call around to a local shop to see if they could do something.

Keep the service pictures coming, love the history. My 226 served me well from 6.12.18 until 3.4.19. Only 1 malfunction over 3k+ rounds. Thing likes rust though. Always rode the slide release as well making it not lock back on empty, but very happy to have it back in my hands.
