Well... I've been playing with this concept for a few years now and decided it was time to get it out into the hands of those that could use it.
These are first pics of the factory prototype put together.
It's called the A.S.P. (Advanced Sniper Platform). It was designed to provide a functional load-bearing system that could be used while low crawling and extended periods in the prone shooting position. I wanted to make it functional as a stand alone item, as well as a component of a completely modular ghillie system. It is fully compatible with all Viper and Cobra models.
It has 1/2" closed cell foam integrated throughout the chest and shoulder harness. The system is fully adjustable and will be offered in two sizes.
The chest skid is contructed from 1000d cordura. Later models will have the option to hold plate armor. It has a crotch strap that keeps the skid in position when shifting or backing up.
The shoulder harness has a super clean design that provides minimal bulk around the shoulder for maximum comfort when shouldering a rifle. Adjustments are made via flat metal 1" tri-glides. The rear straps and hardware will be replaced on the final production model with 2, 1-1/2 webbing straps and flat metal tri-glides to create a cleaner design and better comfort.
The sleeves are detachable at a single point and cinch up around the shoulder via shock cord. The elbows/forearms are protected by 1000d cordura and have pockets for whatever level of padding that is needed. There are adjustable thumb loops and cord lock for closing the wrists up.
The cumberbund adjusts via paracord and can expand to fit different body types. It has integrated pockets for holding maps or misc. items.
I am also in the final stages of designing a set of matching chaps that will round off this system. It will provide full abrasion coverage for the front of the legs and have the paracord grid on the back. Plus it will provide MOLLE attachment along the upper thighs, so it will act much in the same way as a drop-leg platform.
We will be taking this prototype out to Camp Robinson next week for evaluation. Wish me luck and as soon as these are available for purchase, I'll let you all know!
